Great product! The (ATI Radeon X1600 - 128mb) video card = problems

I bought this product for my mom, she needed a new computer. I'm not much of a mac user, but it has been really easy to use, and help her learn to use.

Likes - The mac software, dictation, dvd player, sound, crisp display, microphone, the webcam, it's screen size/weight.

Dislikes - The video card (ATI Radeon X1600 - 128mb), a known issue with this model of iMac, causes horizontal lines on the screen, patches of color, and sometimes the display completely freezes.

Using the zoom function causes blurriness in the text.

I found a workaround, for the video card, that seems to be working, which is to download smcFanControl, which can control Intel fans, and turn your CPU/GPU fan higher to keep the graphics card cooler. This will cause more noise, but at a lower setting it's a manageable noise.

Note: Newer versions of smcFanControl won't work with older versions of Mac OSX, I found this out after some frustration.

Overall, minus the display issues and zoom function, this is a great product compared to other models. Buying this computer convinced me to finally give Macs a try. :)Read full review...

Love this computer for the price i got it and the fast OS. Make sure you get the intel core duo 2 processor so you can upgrade to os x lion which is great. Awesome product! Great value for the price.

My windows computer crashed and always wanted a MAC, when i came across this for the price my wife and i went for it, the system came with OS 10.5 and i purchase the 10.6 because I got a air printer in my excitement and it would not work with the 10.5. the snow leopard 10.6 works fine with my printer and all is well. I've added the iworks 08 for now and will upgrade in the future once i get use to the system. as they say once you go Apple you can't go back. I'm sold.Read full review...

Really lucked out on this iMac, for the price was a great purchase. The only things I overlooked before purchasing was that this model only handles 2gigs of ram vs 3 the others released at the same time can and does not have bluetooth as it said in the item description. But again that was my fault for not looking at the specs deeper than I did.
