Despite a very high mintage of 266,268,000, not very many 1945-D cents survive in grades of MS-65 Red or higher. Thus, I always recommend purchasing the higher graded coins when they are affordable. PCGS is widely regarded as the top grading service for US coins, so you can count on good quality from them. PCGS MS-66 coins are the "sweet spot" to me for many of the 1940's dates. Stretching to MS-67's can really start to hurt the pocketbook without a noticeable jump in quality. As they say though..."Buy the coin, not the holder." In other words, check over any coin you intend to purchase very carefully, as any grading service can make mistakes. Happy collecting!
