I decided to get one of these after a friend shot some video with hers. It was so much clearer than my little Sony HD camcorder and she wasn't even using the 4K setting! I selected "not easy to use" because there are so many settings, but you can choose the defaults, which should be fine for most videos. The unit seems very well made. Here's the difficult part - editing and burning copies. I think that the 4K resolution is too data heavy for my old laptop. Using the Sony software, the picture and sound are so jittery that I can't split the video into sections. I have an external Blu-Ray burner that worked well with my old videos, but I haven't been able to burn new discs in 4K format. Luckily, the camcorder has a setting that records both in 4K and mp4 at the same time, so I'm going to try to edit the video in this lower resolution setting, but I got this camcorder to make videos in higher resolution. I'm either going to have to get a new laptop or record in regular HD until I figure this out. Might have to get a 4K TV too! Read full review

I'm pretty new to making videos and this camera is not a point and shoot type. Although in auto mode it is simple to use and gets good results. The better your camera knowledge the better the picture gets. The picture quality is amazing. This camera is right on the threshold of a professional camera. Gimbal controls are not the best but OK. I would advise using this with a camera pole, tripod or pistol grip because it can get heavy if your using it a lot. I love this camera but like I said I'm a novice to videos my last video camera was a GoPro 4.

MY THIRD SONY CAM CODER FROM THE 8MM CASSETTE TAPE TO A 3D CAMCODER AND NOW THE FDR-AX100 4K. ALL THREE ARE IN GREAT OPERATING CONDITION, BUT THE 3D MODEL DID NOT HAVE A VIEWER OTHER THAN THE LED SCREEN WHICH IS USELESS IN DAYLIGHT OPERATION. WITHOUT FINDING A SONY WITH THE VIEWER I PURCHASED A PANASONIC DISC RECODER WHICH HAD ITS OWN LIMITATIONS I DIDN'T LIKE. THEN I FIND THE SONY AX100 WHICH HAS THE LED SCREEN AND VIEWER WHICH ALLOWS ME TO VIDEO OUTSIDE IN BRITE SUNLIGHT. THANK YOU SONY FOR PULLING YOUR HEAD OUT AND INSTALLING THE VIEWER BACK ON YOUR CAMCODERS.

Still giving Newer models a run for their money, and in some cases better. There are people still buying this model over the new ones in 2020. It is a bit lighter than the AX700, has the convenient built in USB cable that can be used to easily download video, and a second way to charge from any USB port from your car or a laptop. No extra cables to lug around. Too bad Sony dropped this on the AX700. Also, the menu system is easier to understand and can be accessed quicker. You can access the record button from the LCD screen. Very convenient when using it to film yourself, backwards, or down low when it's hard to reach the back record button. The video output and quality is hard to distinguish from the newer models. The new 3.10 firmware update made this cam even better and a good choice for anyone filming in Full HD or 4K. The 4K chip makes 1080p look even better than a dedicated 1080p only camera. Some even buy this camera to only shoot in HD 1080p. It's that good. As far a weight goes, it's light considering the amount of stuff packed into a hand held camcorder. And oh yeah, the 1" sensor is best in class for low light. Read full review

I wanted to get a 4K camcorder and decided on the AX100. Didn't want to pay the new price and found this one - an open-box item from Best Buy. Saved almost $500. And it's just like a brand new one. Couldn't be more pleased. The video is remarkable. Hard to believe how clear everything is. This replaces a very small Canon camcorder I've had for years. That worked well in sunlight, but lots of video noise anywhere else. This one is a modern miracle.
