Who think you can't have a high quality/great sounding turntable for under $500; you are wrong. I had narrowed my search and budget down to the Akai and two better known turntables which were a bit more, but also had a more modern, minimalist look. This deck is heavy and made from quality components. The walnut table is beautiful as well as hefty, the machine brushed knobs and metal tone arm feel sturdy and quality as well. The included cartridge is absolutely functional and perfect for my needs as a consumer that wants the quality of a good consumer turntable. I cannot honestly rate this table next to a $1000-$3000 rig as I'll never realistically afford one, but it's made a world of difference to me from any other setup I've ever owned. I do not believe I'll ever need to upgrade from my Akai BT-500. For the sake of disclosure, I'm running my Akai into a Harmon Kardon 630 Twin Powered receiver, with vintage Realistic Mach One speakers. My personal preference was to keep the signal chain as vintage as possible.Read full review
