After Tarja left the band I was dissapointed like many were, and believed that Nightwish was dead, even if they were to find a replacement. How wrong I was! After learning about the new lead singer Annette it took me a while, but I found myself liking her. She is not Tarja, and her voice is nothing special than what we've heard in other bands, but she definitively can make Nightwish songs come alive! Tuomas comes again with his amazing lyrics and music that blows you away! This is not their best album, but it shows their will to continue, and neverless is still one hell of an album! Songs like Bye, bye beautiful and Master Passion Greed are filled with that anger that only Marco can sing! Eva and Amaranth shows Annete's melodic and sweet voice. For the heart I once had is very close to being a pop song, but I don't mind with Annete's voice. The poet and the pendulum might just be the best song in the album, even if it's a 14-minute song. Overall, I believe this is an album definitely worth buying, just give it a chance!Read full review
I bought this so I could more easily learn the song Amaranth to possibly sing with my band but overall it is a very good album. I particularly love the song Meadows Of Heaven which came at a good time for me because my mother is dying. Annette Olzan's vocals are so beautiful so watch out, this song may bring you to tears!

The opening track:the poet and the Pendulum is great and even though it's long it's awesome! Bye Bye Beautiful is a definite good bye Tara! Amaranth is also a great tune that will stick in your head after a listen. Eva is also a more mellow but still an excellent tune! New vocalist Annette Olson does a great job and the band still sounds great. This cd is excellent for any Nightwish fan or metal fan! Long live Nightwish! There aren't any bad songs on this cd and I also love For the heart I once had which is mellow and Annette does a great job! Give it a listen and you'll be listening more than once!
I fell in love with their current album and wanted to hear previous albums. Most impressive are the tremendous amount of instruments on this album, violins, cellos...ect. Toumas' arrangement rivals Mozart. Anette (vocals) brings Nightwish to the next level, she brings a broader range of vocal styles, this album couldn't have been pulled off by their previous vocalist. Throw Marco(bassist)vocals on top of that and each song brings a different variety. The album is so diverse everyone is sure to find something, it ranges from Celtic rock to heavy metal to an 80's power ballad sound. In short the album is just as much of a masterpiece as their current album, "Imaginarium".
I was prepared not to like this CD or Anette Olzon, but I decided to give it a try. The more I listened to it, the more I loved it! No, she is not Tarja, but then no one else is either. I feel Tuomas did the correct thing in not getting another Tarja clone. I really enjoy Amaranth, Sahara, For The Heart I Once Had, and Meadows of Heaven. I enjoyed the rest of the album as well, but for me Nightwish's magnum opus is Ghost Love Score. Buy this album if you are a Nightwish fan, you will not be disappointed!
