I really enjoyed the series - Rock Star Supernova in which Tommy Lee - the infamous Drummer from Motley Crue, Jason Newsted of Metallica and Gilby Clarke - known best for his stint in Guns n Roses; all join together to form a 'Supergroup' in need of a frontman. Though not my personal pick - Lukas Rossi was chosen to front the band, leaving me curious as to how his rather unique style and sound would blend with the band and to what outcome! My answer lies in this - the initial offering from Supernova featuring 11 tracks, many of which were previewed in the show, albeit with some of the other contenders filling in the singer role! There are some great - if not particularly complex - choices. 'Leave the Lights on' is catchy and does rock though I favored it more when performed by another contestant - Dilana; and the "yeah, yeah, yeah" line sounds awfully cliche!!!I also enjoy "Be Yourself" but again the "hey, hey, hey' lines just scream of a need for stronger lyrics!! The greater problem here might be that although the band contains some talented musicians, they were never the primary song writer for their respective outfits and this is sorely seen in this album! The music really works, but I am left wondering if certain lyrics were added for their rhyming properties and not the fact that it made sense to the song! Headspin showcases a lot of the features and talent that helped Lucas win, and as his style shines through on this track, it is one of the better songs on the album! Underdog is also a great song that is remarkably different from some of the other tracks and harps back to a different and perhaps better era in music! The Dead parade is a stellar track to close the album with darker and heavier undertones!! I like this album - but just wanted a little more from it!!! There is plenty of talent here - but the need for stronger lyrics just screams out from the album and changing this, should help make future offerings stronger!Read full review
Like most cd's made in the past 10 years, this one also has one or two quality songs and the rest are disposable. The vocals are pretty good, there's little noticeable bass and Tommy Lee's drums are quality as usual. If you can find it in a used cd bin for $4, it's worth the purchase. Spending more than that would be a wasted of money. These guys were better w/ their respective bands.
I bought the Rock Star Supernova CD after seeing the competition on TV to locate a singer. I was immediately hooked. I have always been a fan of more of the hard rock and heavy metal genre of music. I found their music to be a pleasant mixture to suit several tastes. It combines hard rock, soft rock, metal, punk, and even blues. Its a welcome change from what I'm used to. Theres no vulgarity on the CD, it's great to listen to while driving, and even my young daughter loves it!
GIVEN TOMMY LEE AND JASON NEWSTEAD ARE INVOLVED PLUS A THUMBS UP FROM A FRIEND I DECIDED TO WASTE MY MONEY. OVERALL POOR SONG SELECTION AND IT NEVER REALLY GOT ME GOING. THE BEATS ARE HARDLY WORTH LISTENING TO THE WHOLE SONG. I DID BUT WISHED I WOULD OF QUICK-PLAYED IT. SOMETIMES THINGS ARE BETTER LEFT UNDONE. MOST OF THE TIME PLAYERS IN A POPULAR BAND NEVER MAKE AFTER THEY LEAVE AND SO IS THE CASE HERE. MOTLEY CRUE AND METALLICA WILL LIVE ON FOR MANY YEARS,BUT I DOUBT ANYONE WILL REMEMBER THIS GROUP IN 10 YEARS,LET ALONE NAMING ANY BAND MEMBERS. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY,INSTEAD BUY AN OLD CRUE OR METALLICA CD AND ROCK ON!!
Fantastic album and not available in South Africa. ebay great way to buy such products. Saw the reality tv show however delayed it was and had to have the cd. The whole experience from finding to buying and receiving by post was faultless, often you buy a cd and there are only 2 or 3 songs on it you like, this cd however i put all the songs onto my ipod. Great
