This Genesis release ties together the old and the new very well. Older fans will no doubt remember the older albums with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hacket in tow... This album has some longer tracks similar to releases from that era,and also shorter more commercial stuff akin to the "Abacab" and "Invisible Touch" albums.... Stand out tracks are "Fading Lights" and "Driving The Last Spike" which are two superb old fashioned "prog rock" songs with a modern slant... In short, if you like Genesis old or new, then this one`s for you !!!
I bought this CD to replace my elderly audiocassette at quite a cheap price (under two quid). Wouldn't have paid more even though I like all periods of Genesis. I really only bought it for one track - "Driving the last Spike" - which somehow still holds onto a fading echo of what Genesis was once capable of producing. What we have here is a highly commercial piece of journeyman stuff where almost every track fits a "market", but the whole is nothing very special as far as Genesis goes. If you like Phil Collins's solo work, it's not a bad album. If you like Genesis as an ensemble, I wouldn't recommend prioritising the purchase of this particular CD.
Bought the album on the basis of having a gap in my Genesis collection. This cd is not great, typical of the later Phil Collins influenced albums. Couple of ok tracks, No son of mine and the other singles. The rest tends to blend into each other, nothing like the Gabriel / Hackett influenced stuff I was brought up on which I have to admit I prefer. So if you like the stuff up to "...then there were three", take a listen before byuing.
