This is Juliana's second c.d., which came out in 93' under the band name “The Juliana Hatfield Three.” This c.d. is warm, rhythmic (slow and upbeat), sensitive and thought provoking as all Hatfield c.d.'s are, but this c.d. happens to have a few "hits" that people noticed while indie rock was especially blooming during the early 90's. Singles (that have promo videos) from the c.d. include "For the Birds," “Spin The Bottle” and "My Sister." "My Sister" was a hit on the charts and a popular song to request in concert for years. “Spin The Bottle” was used for the “Reality Bites” soundtrack. My favorite song off the disk (right now) is "Mabel" which has a chilling chorus and beautiful melody. Juliana loves to perform "I got no Idols" to this day and has used it as an opener during solo concerts in recent years. I can go on and on about how melodic and well written this c.d. is. It's a great c.d. to start with for any person getting into Hatfield's music and a must have for any Hatfield fan. You'll love it!Read full review
I bought this CD because I really enjoyed Juliana Hatfield's "Only Everything" CD, finding it to be one of those rare CDs where every song is awesome. Juliana Hatfield's style is beguiling--she lures you in with her sweet and gentle voice and then explodes all over you with monstrous guitar riffs. And if you pay attention to the lyrics, it's evident that she's put some thought into crafting her songs and probably in many cases is speaking from personal experiences. I would really place Juliana Hatfield on a par with some of the greats of progressive rock, such as XTC, Bob Mould/Sugar/Husker Du, the Beatles, REM, and the Stone Roses. And as an added bonus, she's much cuter than any of those guys. If you like a fascinating and creative indie rock sound, and you appreciate intelligent women with just that right blend of tomboy and girly girl, I think you would love Juliana Hatfield and her musical product.Read full review
This CD has to be one of my favorite CD's of hers and shows great vocals, catchy guitar hooks, and great production. The CD was produced by Scott Litt, of many REM greats, and his direction with the great ensemble of Juliana's songs make this a great CD and one of anyone who loves indie alternative music!!!!
