Have used around a dozen of these axes over a couple years for axe throwing after cutting them down. I highly recommend soaking them in water to give them strength to withstand being thrown at distances further than 28 feet. For regular use at 14 or so feet they are great for seasoned vets at throwing but have had 3 break in 2 hours with new throwers hitting handles and them splintering off. The metal is super soft and requires a lot of sharpening. The wood is strong for throwing but make one mistake and that may be your last mistake as the handles really aren't strong. When they are soaked in water for 15 minutes or so before being thrown they can take a beating. Overall good cheap axe to have fun with but expect some failures.

I bought this axe to step into a new hobby. I wasn’t sure but, after some research, landed on this axe. I own several Cold Steel knives and figured it was a solid company with an awesome track record. Having had ZERO exposure and even less experience in axe throwing, I wanted to start with a good foundation. I couldn’t have chosen a better starting point. I compared many many different options. I had to determine style, weight, length, width and so many other attributes of the axe. This model ticked all the boxes for a starter/intermediate/ advanced throwing axe. Cold Steel did a phenomenal job of creating something to provide the user with confidence and a little courage to jump off into this complicated hobby. I’m still learning and my axe has been a great teacher and an even better equalizer, as it is so easy to fall in love with. Even bad throws look impressive. Most beginner axes are 10”, 12”, 15” and a few 16-17” models. Cold Steel comes in at 21” and gives solid purchase and grip for one handed and two handed throwing without having to choke up too far on the handle. This makes a huge difference when gaining confidence in your technique and style. While I have a long way to go in perfecting this hobby, I’ll be able to continue with this weapon throughout the journey, as it truly has it all. Couldn’t be MORE PLEASED! I would recommend this to anyone wanting to begin this challenge. Read full review

It really isn’t a wood chopping type axe, but it will chop wood. If is a throwing type really and it does it well. Nice feel and great balance.
