I bought the Toshiba Thrive with the intent of it being a nice mobile option, a device a little more mobile than my laptop - this device has accomplished those goals. As an Android phone owner, this device has been easy to use, and my two year old daughter loves using it as well - maybe I need a second one! The Thrive has a very nice experience. It is a little thicker and heavier than most of the competition, but that wasn't a concern of mine, and to some degree I think the size makes it feel more secure and sturdy. With the upgrade to Honeycomb 3.2, apps built for phones are more easily used on the larger 10" screen. One of the great features that is notable in comparison to other tablets: the expandable ports - full HDMI, full and mini USB, SD card slot. Two things I'd like to see get better for the Thrive: 1) The Thrive freezes at least once a day forcing a reboot. Not a big problem, but of course it decides to freeze when you're in a position of not wanting to take the extra time to reboot. 2) The power charging component is not a USB device, it would be really helpful if you could recharge the Thrive with the more common USB components. Overall, a very nice tablet for a very nice price. Mobile, usable, expandable, and fun.Read full review
When you consider the e-readers are up to $300, this is a good buy. It gives you the reader with more features, power and larger screen. I bought it for the USB port, only to find you CANNOT load an MP3 or a reader. Some of my issues are because it is Android and not the Windows OS I am use to. When the warrenty is up I will probably root it and tinker with it. Weight and size issues other have- after a while you get use it. If I had it to do over, I would wait for the 2nd or 3rd generation Surface for the Windows OS and hope that USB port will work with my other toys. PRO: larger screen reads more easily with larger fonts VERY responsive touch screen downloads well from my public library CON: does not work with my MP3 and e-reader Weight and size make it not as portable as others needs a cover (Moko) to feel its best in the hand back lit screen tires the eye more than e-inkRead full review
Very good would be my evaluation. I appreciate the connectivity that this tablet has over the others. Full size HDMI and USB are great. WiFi performance is excellent. Blutooth range is excellent. Camera performance is as good as any other tablet and a great deal better than an iPad. It it weighs a few onces more and is a bit thicker than some others but not a problem to me. The ability to replace your own battery is an exclusive. I have a couple of other tablets but this is certainly my favorite. If you want a thinner and lighter one the Lenovo K1 is my choice.

A solid opportunity(for us), on a daily basis, to test out many of the Thrive's features. It was purchased for my wife with photo editing as it's primary job, a mobile E-mail / internet communicator, and a really cool tech toy. We haven't been disappointed at all. Setup was very straight forward. It connected to our wireless home network (802.11G) with no problem, and let us know that the Android 3.2 System update was available for installation. Updates of System and application files went without any hitches for us. Being Android based, already having a Google account streamlined the process. It offered to set an account up right then, if we didn't already have one. We slogged through the first few days getting acquainted with it. This is our first Android OS experience, but it has been very painless overall. We haven't yet used Bluetooth, the HDMI port, or the mini USB port. What we don't like about the Thrive: The perfect display glass was completely smudged within the first two hours of handling it. We have since gotten a clear screen protector, which has helped. My wife says it gets "heavy" after carrying it around for an amount of time. Taking photos outdoors can be difficult(screen glare, girth of unit). We found out that we can't remove the preinstalled applications that we won't use, and that there is a 3GB limit on the amount of Applications we can have on the Thrive. Not a deal breaker, since we bought the Thrive. We haven't come close to the 3GB limit, it is something we have adapted to. We were unable to download applications from Toshiba's website. What we like about the Thrive: The settings options, the Thrive operates very smoothly, and maintenance is not an issue(so far). Audio sound quality is very good. The indicator lights. Not too bright, but informative. It feels solid(Not indestructible, but solid.), The ability to lock screen orientation in portrait or landscape, and the quick start guide from Toshiba is well detailed. Electronic documentation available from Toshiba's website is very thorough. Downloading applications from Android marketplace is quite easy, and removing downloaded applications is easy also. What we love about the Thrive: Wife loves the battery life, and I love the fact that battery prices have dropped since the unit was introduced, and that I can change out the battery myself. The Thrive's display is very crisp and sharp. The ports and SD slot did the deal for me. They expanded the connectivity of the Thrive for multiple activities and applications. Not everything is wireless in our world, yet. The sensitivity of the wireless antennas, the ease of connecting to networks, and the flawless video streaming experience.Read full review
Review for Toshiba Thrive 10” 32GB Before purchasing the Toshiba Thrive 10”, I compared it to similar large tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the Motorola Xoom, the Asus Transformer and the Ipad 2. While doing my research, I noticed that my concerns were lining up around two facts: functionality vs. weight. I actually laid my hands on all 5 tablets mentioned in this review. The Toshiba is .6” thick, but when you handle it, it does not feel bulky. I like the graspable factory back on it which makes the unit easy to hold with one hand. It also stays where you put it, even on a smooth surface. The weight of this tablet is not even noticeable in a back pack. The external dimensions of this tablet are 6.95” x 10.75” and it will fit inside of a standard ladies purse with ease. I have owned my Thrive for a little over a month now and am impressed with the speed of the processor – I wish that my cell phone pushed apps this fast... I like the location of the status LED’s, power button and volume rocker in the upper left corner as they are easy to get to. I love, love, love the fact that this tablet has a full and a mini USB port along with the HDMI port, but the door covering them is awkward to use so I might end up just pulling it off; you don’t really need it. I don’t mind the camera location, but would have preferred it to be on the longer side; but it takes good pictures though. This tablet has wonderful battery life. I use it randomly during the day and have around 80% left when I get home from 8 hours of work (10 hours of not being charged). I also like that the battery is removable, so now all we need from Toshiba is the ability to charge an extra battery with an external charger that plugs into a wall AND a car outlet. The operating system was easy to use right out of the box and if you already have an Android phone, then you only have to learn how to put a widget / icon on your home screen – everything else is the same. I love how easy this tablet is to hook to any wifi / mifi connection; just put in the password (if needed) and you are on. Way easier than using a laptop with Windows! Toshiba has included some very nice things with this tablet. I really like their file manager as it is easy to use and it helps me to copy / move / store data in all of the places that I need it. I also like the games that came with the unit as they are better than their equivalents in the Android Market. These games help make life bearable when others are wasting your time by making you wait on them to be seen at a Dr. Appointment! I also purchased some accessories that make life with this tablet even better. First was a Zagg screen protector to save the unit from scratches. Next was the Kensington Folio Pro with Bluetooth keyboard so that I could use my tablet in business situations with ease. I also got a neoprene slide-in case for when I need to travel light. I would sum this entire review up in saying that I did purchase the right tablet at a good price and I am totally thrilled with it. Thanks Toshiba!Read full review
