This is definitely a high-quality box, with a great tuner and tape deck. It's one of the best-sounding vintage boomboxes of that era, with very clear accurate sound, and it's very loud outdoors, but if you're using it indoors there are other boomboxes with better low-volume bass. I'm also not a big fan of its looks -- It's a bit plain. The controls on top are just simple gray plastic, and there's two sliders for volume instead of just a knob, making it more difficult to get exactly the volume you want. Also I'm not sure why people keep paying an average of $350 for them when they're not rare at all. It was one of the highest-production boomboxes ever. So it seems like everyone and their mother owns one.

If you can't afford a JVC RC-M90, then the M70 is the next best thing. However, know what you're getting yourself into. Even if the unit is cosmetically clean externally, it will require a lot of work (regardless of whatever these sellers are telling you): vacuuming out the internals; DeOxit D5/F5 of the switches, faders, and pots; driver belt changes, demagnetizing the capstans/heads, etc. These beautiful machines are for aficionados only, because remember they are over 30 years old. Vintage can be a treasure, but not if you aren't willing to put in the elbow grease to restore these beautiful workhorse machines.
