Very cheap made radio, non toshiba transistors ,output isn't that inpressive considering how much this radio costs new . My 2970n2 and external amp blows this radio away ! You would be much better off with a old cobra 148gtl and a 1 x 4 amp .. Just my opinion . Don't waste your money on this pos .. my response to sniper p229 down there is perhaps you may be used to poor quality radios or you yourself have no idea what your talking about ! The radio is a over priced drift box on ssb and yes a cobra 148 and a 1x4 would be better off. And while yours has toshibas mine had dei so perhaps there’s a difference .. didn’t your momma ever teach you respect ? Come on here and say I don’t know what I’m talking about ? Get back In the corner mud duck and learn about quality radios and not these over priced junk boxes ! .Read full review

Mine works great and it DOES have 4 Toshiba red dot 2SC2879 pills in it so, I don't know what the other person is talking about and I'll bet he doesn't either. Newer stuff might have the new DEI 2sc2879 installed as Toshiba discontinued their 2sc2879 transistors. The radio performs well in both TX and RX, the audio is clean if you don't cut the limiter. RF output power has a good swing to it. Yes, you can get more out of a 4 pill but it might get dirty. The echo sounds good but is only adjustable from inside so, you'll need to decide how you really want it - echo or reverb. I have mine set up for reverb (chicken hauler). The meter could be bigger and controls layed out like the 98vhp. Not real keen on the outer knobs, though. NO PA function but, we're not DJs or announcers so, no biggie. The face is hard to read with red text on chrome but, after familiarization with the radio you won't need to read it. When you consider the cost of this kind of radio plus a decent 4 PILL AMP you're gonna be right around the same price point. You DO have to compare apples to apples - 4 pill to 4 pill. Overall, If you're looking for a good all in one combo unit with moderate power... This would do nicely - IF you can find one UNDER 650.00 you doing good. I paid about half that for mine.Read full review

I have one, It's Really grate radio if you leave the audio at 80% and not 100% with all the crazy mod'ing. I had mine unlocked and aligned That's all I did to mine to keep the audio top shelf. there a lot of folks think supper turning makes a radio, like cutting the audio limiter and maxing it all out. Don't is my way of thinking. Just get a grate mic like the ranger noise canceling mic - nothing but complements and red rose's on mine.... Now Ranger Could of added a Line Out & Line In jacks on the back With a PTT Jack for Pro Audio by passing the mic/pa amp in the radio for some really Top Shelf Audio and have a clean clean audio with out clipping the band edges. "Supper modding can and does clip band edges and splatters into channels / stations" If i get another one I will keep it as close to stock as i can for said reasons. For the Price I can't say it's a good value, but I can say it's a grate radio for the quality.Read full review

Bought one of these first part of the year. It came all fixed up. I get lots of complaints that it is to loud and distorted. You can't adjust the echo/reverbe at all,,,you get what comes from the factory. You would think a radio of this caliber would have adjustments. You can't read the red writing on the chrome, you have to get up close to read anything on it. Would have been better in black. It is very heavy,,,,I would stick to my Mirage MX36, General Lee, or other less expensive radios

Very pleased with the power of the radio. Great receive and transmit. Using a Wilson 5000 antenna and talking skip from New Jersey to Alabama with all the other DX on the air...
