Certainly after renewing the silver finish it looks a lot better than the ugly black boxes pushed on the public today by low life psuedo-designers. But it is old technology and easily gets hung up. The NTSC tuners are useless in this day and there is no known method to swap them out. The VHS and DVD players work with good image quality and should record with the same. Useful as a VHS and DVD playback deck and can be used with external sources for recording. The machine can easily hang up for unknown reasons and this can be reversed by simply unplugging waiting a few second and plugging it back in. It is in use but for serious recording you need a more up to date unit like the Toshiba DVR-670 or Magnavox .MDR-868H. Unfortunately they are ugly black but more useful especially when teamed together.Read full review

Complicated programing - this would be a great product for tech savvy people, but many of us find it too difficult. Still, It has a great picture and does most functions well. The reason I bought this was so that I could dub from VCR tapes to DVDs - unfortuantely, the option that allows the dubbing from just a portion of a VCR tape, rather than the entire VCR tape, is the one function that no longer works on this refurbished machine.

During the 2000s I used this exact same machine to record TV programs and dub VHS tapes that I had made during the 1990s. During that time I neglected to finalize a number of the DVDs that I had made. Fortunately, I had taken a picture of my TV set with this JVC machine coupled to it. Using that picture, I managed to get another working machine from EBay. I'm now digitizing all of my collection of DVDs, and was able to get the exact same type of machine that used originally. I have finalized a number of DVDs that were not finalized tenor more years ago. My ultimate objective is to digitize all of my stuff in the near future.

Yes I will write IF my knowledge and many experiences with this JVC DR-MV1 can help other buyers who does not have technical knowledge and experiences. This JVC DR-MV1 is good to video recording and watching. Specially DR-MV1 has 'two twin tuners for VCR and DVD inputs. But JVC failed this product because of its design ! Micro Processor on Main PCB Board is getting SO HOT after few years using and suddenly starting showing video noise on screen, and starting "LOADING, LOADING" continuously while and power shut down. Then - you can un-plug AC chord and cooling main board while again. After this process - this JVC DR-MV1 works little while like 1 hour to 2 or 3 hours then start above mentioned all over again !! It means that - the "Micro Processor" is ready to die for recycle scrap this JVC !! But many sellers are selling this JVC DR-MV1 after just plug in chord OR testing recording a few minuet. Obviously unit will work within a few minuets. But buyers using this DVD recorder many hours and many days ! That's why all the bad sellers are selling remote control separately to make money, and selling un-functional main machine without 'remote control' separately just for another buyers who does not know this problem ! Then usually and easily these sellers will say - "Just send JVC back and I will refund money" for another trial !? But some honest sellers will say - " Do not return for another extra cost. Just send to recycle or scrap unit yourself and I will full refund money without receiving JVC DR-MV1" and those they do immediately refund money to buyer. But many bad sellers insist 'to return malformation DVD recorder for now selling "For Parts Only" !! Ebay should keep these bad sellers out from Ebay's site and keep good, innocent and honest buyers under their customers. But Ebay does NOT doing that either makes me angry and disappointed what / how Ebay is trying to make money same as the 'bad seller' ??!! Then last answer - "then why you keep buying this junks" ? I already mentioned at above (1) This JVC DR-MV1 has ' two twin tuners' for VCR and DVD ! (2) This JVC has very good video out put for watching TV or movies. Last: That's why a few sellers selling this JVC DR-MV1 asking $400 to $600 which is ridiculous prices because they know this problem and also those knows how to modify 'Capacitors' OR DVD Driver..etc. Usually these sellers including "Remote Control" together with unit. Now do you understand my prostration and angry against to these bad sellers ??? I spent some time to writing this for all the honest and innocent potential buyers for this JVC DR-MV1 !!!Read full review
If you want to convert VHS to MP4 or DVD, forget one of those adapters for the computer. I purchased one, and it was heavily pixilated. What I did instead was record the VHS onto HIGHEST Quality DVD, MPEG2. Then on the computer, take that MPEG2 and use a ripper program to convert it to a single .mpeg file. The quality is great. This is a good piece of machinery. Easy to use and SOLID. Don't make em like this anymore
