This is the best backpacking/camping/survival water filter you can get. The end. Over the years I've owned several types but I used this particular model during deployments in the Marine Corps. Works great in harsh conditions. If it can produce drinkable water in one of those "s*hole countries" it will work anywhere. 😎 It is more than adequate on its own but I do suggest the optional carbon filter (sold separately) to make the water taste a little better. If properly taken care of this will last YEARS before needing a new ceramic filter. If you only use it a handful of times a year it will probably last decades. This is money well spent even at full price so if you can find it for under regular retail, pull the trigger and get one. It's well made (Swiss), it's durable, it's compact, it's fantastic.Read full review

Purchased the product and left on a trip to the Dominican Republic the following week. Used it for filtering all my drinking water for 10 days and it worked great. The water tasted great after treatment and the pumping process was easy and fast. I am usually very sensitive to water changes and suffered no problems on this trip. I am very happy with this purchase and will purchase a couple more fro my family.

Got this Wednesday, went for an 5 mile back in the mountains overnight camp on Friday. This thing was awesome! The water tasted better than my house water and there were 5 of us that relied on the Katadyn Pocket and it filled about 1.5 gallons of water bottles in about 15 min. That is NOT slow if you've ever used other water filter products. On top of the ease of use is the thousands of gallons that you can expect from the Pocket water filter (13,000 or 15,000?). It does weigh about 2 pounds maybe, but I will choose to pack with this over anything lighter but less trustworthy. Note, Katadyn warns you of this, but the first 1/2 liter or liter from a new Pocket will have ceramic dust in it...it's normal and will be gone after that first liter or so. Awesome product for camping or emergency preparedness. Strongly recommend.Read full review

Had one of these for years and have used it all over the world. I am sensitive to water and since using the filter I have never had a problem. I just purchased the new filter for an employee and used it during a week in Costa Rica and another week in Nicaragua and it performed flawlessly. It is amazing to see how much "stuff" comes off the filter when cleaning it. One note is to purchase extra rubber washers for the pump and carry them with you if one wears out the filter stops working. The filter comes with one spare......it is not enough. (Hint: automotive air conditioning washer kits, they are green colored, with multi sizes normally have a few in each kit that fits for a couple dollars at the automotive store). A great product every family should have for emergencies. Great how to use videos are available on line. Note: The filter is ceramic so don't drop it or it can break. 2 thumbs up for this product.Read full review

This is the best water filter on the market, expensive yes. Built with excellent materials that will handle abuse. Easy to disassemble and clean. This is professional quality. I use it on long (multi week) solo canoe trips into Northern wilderness. No mistakes allowed. I depend on the Katadyn for pure water. David, Vancouver BC
