Wonderful NATURAL sound, no tinny treble. I have two pairs of HD650's & one HD600. I edit my traditional jazzband CD,s & they are so good [being 300 ohm] that editing issues can be detected , [if you know where to listen], that good speakers miss. The headband is abit tight but it can be stretched ok. My other Stens. are fine after 20 years use . A head amp is essential for quality or a good seperate CD player h/phone skt. No good for portable use just a waste . Alan .

Probably one of the most famous pairs of headphones of all time does genuinely live up to the hype. Yes there is a little high-freq trail off, but they are not as dark as some haters would have you believe (the so-called 'Sennheiser veil'). They do NOT respond well to being plugged into cell phones or portable players. If you can't plug these into at least a stereo hifi amplifier's headphone socket, or better still into a dedicated headphone amplifier, save your money because you will not get the best from them.

Lets start off with a bit of background. I enjoy listening to all types of music and was eager to purchase some good headphones. I already had a pair of HifiMan HE 400s but I wanted to try something else so I got these for 190. Sound: I am by no means an audiophile and to be honest I have a hard time describing what makes these headphones good sound wise, however I can assure you that if you are a casual listener like me you will have no problems in this department: they sound really good. Bass wise isn't great, just adequate, but from what I've read I don't think there are any open backed headphones with great bass. Sound Comparison with the HE 400s: Both sound great, HE 400s feel like the sound is coming from further away which can sound cool. Comfort: I cannot fault them in this department. At 259g have never caused me neck fatigue even for long listening sessions, a problem that I had with the heavier HE 400s. They feel light on the head and the pads are a comfy soft material. I didn't find myself sweating wearing them but the ears are quite snug against the pads. Another big plus is they do not apply to much clamping force on the head. Comfort comparison with the HE 400s: More comfortable especially for longer listening Build quality: No complaints, made of plastic so doesn't feel ultra premium but doesn't look or feel tacky. Seems robustly enough built. Negatives: Stock cable is a bit long really. Conclusion: Deserve all the praise they receive, you cannot go wrong as a casual listener. Pick them up for sub 200 and you shall be a satisfied customer.Read full review

It's comfortable and light. Clamp can be a little harsh at first. They are easy enough to run but don't really come to life unless they are used with an amp. This headphone scales really well with better gear. They sound sublime. Bass is all there when needed. Though they are not bass cannons. The mids are simply some of the best available at any price. The highs are great without a hint of being silibant. Over all they need to be in your collection.

I bought the Senheiser HD650 headphones following extensive research. Whilst I could not stretch to to HD800 , these were the top rated headphones only a couple of years ago. I use them principally in a radio studio which has a quality amplifier on the headphone sockets. The music is well recorded jazz including SACDs and Blu-Spec cds. The outcome has been marvelous making my programme an absolute joy. I recommend them highly. I have just invested in a Kimber cable for the 650 so I expect even greater things! If you are in the market go and get some - you will not be disappointed ! Michael
