While doing some self reflection it seems I'm an unhappy person or so it would seem because I am always whining here on the discussion boards but dammit eBay get your s#@t together will you?
So I along with what a BILLION other people just recived this e-mail about how Goggle is out to destroy us all and starting in October 2017, Google Chrome—the browser used by almost half of all eBay buyers—will begin displaying the message "Not Secure" in the address bar when users visit standard HTTP pages or HTTPS pages that include non-secure HTTP content.
Now I don't believe that we have many of these non-secure HTTP content listings but hey doesn't hurt to check right?
So I click on the i-ways link in eBay's message "you have listings that contain or link to HTTP content, and we encourage you to remove this content from your listings immediately. If you're not sure which of your listings contain HTTP content, you can use the i-ways tool to identify them. We have partnered with i-ways to implement an eBay sign-in that protects your full inventory from being available publicly. " yup right there and I get this:
"This site can’t be reached
bulkchecker.i-ways.net took too long to respond.

There are probably 100's/1000's trying to access it........I just tried.........got the insecure message the first time, got thru the 2nd........just going to take persistence.
As far as the message stuff..........that happens when you cut/paste, no big deal.

FWIW, I thought I read something that said they were working on it...

I ran a scan of your items in the next unreleased version of this scanner that will be updated to detect external links and SSL, in addition to active content.
http://www.isdntek.com/ebaytools/ActiveContentScanner.htm
A cursory review of the results did not show any SSL issues (you have over 4000 items and I didn't check the results on all of them). However, there were a few external links to non-eBay pages.
Additionally, over 3000 of your listings contain Active Content and an external credit link for that content. So, when you remove the Active Content, you'll need to go an extra step and also remove the credit link. This is the block of code that appears in those 3000 listings:
<center><a target="_blank" href="http://kigoogalytics.kioui-apps.com"><script>document.write("<img border=0 src='http://kigoogalytics.kioui-apps.com/logos/ITEMS-" + ebayItemID + "/SELLERID-" + _sellerId +"/'>")</script></a><script>document.write("<img border=0 src='https://kigoogalytics.kioui-apps.com/tracks/ITEMS-" + ebayItemID + "/SELLERID-" + _sellerId +"/'>")</script></center>
You should be able to remove that block using eBay's Bulk Edit And Replace (BEAR) tool or using the Bulk Active Content Editor.
You can check the Bulk Scanner next week to see if it has been updated to detect SSL and non-eBay Links. Sellers will be facing both of those issues in the near future.

Nearly ALL of my templates were bought (a few years ago) from the same person or couple of persons. Of course, none of the photos for the templates are hosted by Ebay. Which means all of my templates are all the sudden worthless. So I am left with the option of having PLAIN, UGLY listings, paying for new templates and HOPING that THEY aren't suddenly unacceptable or just quitting ebay. I am seriously tempted to just throw all my 40,000 pounds of books into a big bonfire in the front yard and say screw it all. So sick of the damned changes every couple of months. This is acceptable this month, but not next month - oh and next month we're going to figure out a NEW way to screw up your life ...

From what I can see, MOST eBay pages display as http, not https. Isn't this something EBAY should be fixing?
It is not as critical for eBay pages to be secure as it is for content embedded in a secure page to also be secure. Seller descriptions are embedded in the eBay page. eBay has to stage the rollout of their security measures in a manner that will not orphan any content.
During the transition period, it is most important that eBay pages can be reached using either http or https, so eBay has to support both to prevent breaking legacy links. Right now, you will notice that it is possible to reach listings using https, but that eBay will redirect those back to http. This is to avoid the browser blocking embedded "mixed-content" in the page. When eBay cuts over in October, the redirect will go the other way so that a link to the http page will redirect to https. That is when seller descriptions could be blocked by the browser, so when eBay makes that change, they'll implement the one-click-away description for listings that are not SSL compliant.
Store pages probably won't convert this year. There are other complex issues to resolve there, so they'll remain http for awhile.

I looked at several of your listings, and the template with the brown book graphics will work to some degree. The graphics are hosted at freeauctiondesigns and will support changing from http to https, so those templates will be ok if you make the change. However, to be mobile friendly, that template would need a few tweaks. For instance, your template already has this code:
<style>img{max-width:100%}</style>
but it really needs this code:
<style> img{max-width:100%} table {width:100%} </style>
And a few may not shrink enough for mobile because some of the longer words in a giant font might be too wide, so perhaps a smaller title font should be chosen for mobile.
<style> img{max-width:100%; height:auto;} table {width:100%} @media(max-width:480px){ #templatetitletxt font {font-size:1.5em;} } </style>
If you have other templates with graphics, I didn't come across those, but they may also be fixable.

I'm selling items on eBa not a programmer (no offense) and the appeal of eBay is the ease of listing point, click, upload pics and done.
We will have over 5000k listings soon and there are only two of us doing over 30k a month in sales. It's a daunting task to have to spend so much time doing maintenence jus to keep our listings up.
I also get messages constantly saying that we are using Java and we aren't it's damned frsutrating.

In addition to issues already stated (time-out and really, really slow processing, and didn't we just do this for active content), I ran mine and about 20% have http issues. While a lot of these are very old listings, some are within the last few months and created straight on eBay's single item listing page. Here's the offending http: http://ebaybusinessbuilder.com/listing-tools/#ebay-only-listing-tools
What is this and more importantly why is this? Is this an eBay product? I am not technically savvy enough to remedy this problem.

I totally agree that this is something eBay should be fixing.
We just paid eBay nearly $2800 in monthly fees for what?
We use ebay's template not some third party template creator so why is this even our issue?
I ran the i-ways check and it said we have like 4200 listings that need to be fixed but I still haven't figuired out how they expect us to fix them...grrrrrrrrrrr

My question is we are using the seller tools provided by eBay and are using their "basic template" we aren't adding anything fancy, no bells, no whistles we are just adding plain text, some pictures, filling in the blanks and pulling the trigger.
How does that make this an issue that "I" the seller has to deal with? It's not my job to fix eBay scripts we just paid eBay nearly $2800 for August fees to use their, keyword "their" platform.
Drives me nuts. I could see if this was our company website then of course it would be our responsibility to work with our hosting provider to resolve this issues but we should not have that issue when talking about listings in eBay, They provide the platform and the hosting services it should be all on them should it not?

You have apparently subscribed to a third party listing add-in called Ki Googalytics, and that service is continually adding scripts to your eBay listings.
Your immediate action should be to turn off that service, since it no longer complies with eBay rules. To turn it off, go into your eBay account settings under "Site Preferences" and look for "Third party authorizations". Revoke the token for something like kioui-apps.com
The next step would be to remove the entire block of code added by that service. We can do that in one pass using the Bulk Active Content Editor and File Exchange. If you need assistance with that process, please post for help on the Active Content forum.

it seems to me i-ways-tool paid big bucks to eBay, so eBay tricks you to use it. but why should we use i-ways-tool when we are on eBay?! It is eBay's job to display all the contents properly and make its site cooperate with all kinds of browsers.
eBay is lazy, greedy & crazy.
