A average shooter with average Multi-player and a Average story line for single player. Nothing special about this game it is not in any way the equal of Tribes. Dropping is at best inconvenient as you can not drop any where as the game claims. Jet packs are annoying as npc's are flying all over the place and you can not without maxing gyro which in turn either means no armor plating or no anvil rounds as you need the points for shields and movement increases. The assault rifle is useless, missiles will not track locked on targets. Stealth options are a waste of points and time turrets hesitate to attack you if you have stealth or not. Sniper rifle way under powered at least 4 or 5 hits to kill a target that is stationary but it is useful for killing turrets at a distance. Grenades are your best weapon second only to the shotgun which is way over powered. And the single player campaign is really really really short for a shooter.Read full review
The first thing i want to point out about this game is the fact of its incognito hiderence to the games of the world. its not uncommon for only 16 people to play this game at once, worldwide. The graphics rival halo 3 and call of duty. the controls are simple and effective. the campaign is a little short, but i believe that to be becase this was meant to be played by more than one person at a time. the vehicles include a large and awesome mech suit, a tank that supports 3 operators on three different weapon placments and a truck that can be used as a mobile missile platform. no ATV's like in halo are needed when your suit can outrun them 10 fold. unlike halo, you can take fall damage. your arsenal is much lager than halo's gun store basics. the knife in this game is great when you use your jump jets and pounce on unsupectingignorant computer players and drive it into thier armor. lets see halo top that. Also supported is 36+ players on each faction (section 8, Arm of orion). In mt opinion, this game should have had better than 7.0 on its rating. despite some small flaws (i have yet to find any) i grant this game a large and well deserved 10 out of 10.Read full review
Section 8 came to me as a surprisingly interesting game given it's design. This is a game where you are in a suit that gives you special abilities on spaceage battlefields and locations. I really liked how fast the boost/run feature is , where you can actually run away from trouble situations if need be while your energy is at full capacity. The players have blurring speed on boost and the weaponry is good. On a scale of 1-10 I would give this game an 8++ , almost a 9 , because if you die while in battle , you simply reparachute back into the fight until you reach the objective. I have taken points off for there not being any quicksave feature and if you stop playing between objectives , you have to restart the entire objective/waypoint. Great graphics but not top notch gameplay are forgetable because the storyline is well above average. There is some challenge to this game as you have to hold certain objectives from enemy takeovers and such. The game has potential , but it all ends fairly abruptly and not after a very lengthy play , all things considered. I would recommend this game if you like FPS's , as it does have a good environment and good maps as well. No sequel to this game is available , so points off for that too. Needless to say nobody plays it online.Read full review
Classic Power armored SHMUP that didn't have a long life. Still it is a good game and it spawned an sequel called SECTION 8 Prejudice which seems to have done better than the original. I bought it because there are not alot of games with power armor fighting in them for the PC and I wanted to have a power armor fighting game other than HALO. I think it is a quality game that unfortunately no one really plays anymore. For that I give it 3 stars.
Section 8 is very engaging and fun during the extremely brief single player campaign. The skeletal story leaves much to be desired. Multiplayer adds many times over to the game, but the small number of weapons, vehicles and maps limits how much enjoyment you can find in it. Worse, there are very few other players to battle with-- all but the most populous one or two servers are ghost towns populated with predictable bots only. This shooter is ultimately overshadowed by other top notch titles released around the same time. Worth $5-12 if you really need a break from your current shooter roundup.
