I've been meaning to find a physical release of the 2nd season of GITS: Stand Alone Complex. I've seen bits of the Second Gig, but never the whole thing. Very happy with the Anime Legends dvd release. Case is in great condition, there's no smudges or cracks on the discs. Each disc works, the menus never stutter and can navigate to the extras and each episode easily.

Ghost in the Shell is my favorite anime of all time!! It's filled with action, suspense, great characters that you can actually relate to, beautiful animation style, and philosophical debates that question how technology can affect humanity, for better or for worse. Ghost in the Shell is set in the future after World War IV and follows the exploits of Section 9, an elite group in Japan that deal with counter-terrorism ops and cyber-hackers. Major Motoko Kusanagi is almost completely cybernetic, only a fraction of her body remains organic. The reason it's called "Ghost" in the shell is because a ghost is what they consider to be a soul or a conscious, and the shell is the prosthetic body. This is one series I highly recommend you check out! The DVD collection is great because it has every episode and the box itself is pretty cool. Although there's only two seasons, there's 26 episodes in each one, so there's plenty of action to experience!!Read full review
The series in question here likes to raise many questions itself. What are we? Is there a spirit within us? Are we more than the protein shell that houses our soul, and what is it exactly that defines our soul? These questions can be found along with the speculative answers within the story of this series. Who could ever forget the lovable Tachikoma's and their ever reaching need for self awareness and definition of soul? Moreover, what unfeeling and callous person shed no tear when the adorable "think tanks" having only just unknowingly found their awareness of self, sacrifice themselves to save their beloved Batou at the end of the original season? One can also go beyond the series into the realm of the movies to find further speculation of these notions, a series also made by the same studio who continue to build the expanding foundation of this TV series, and the movies themselves are a nice comliment to this world of sci-fi exploration. Remember, sci-fi by its very definition is the exploration of the human condition from a fantastic point of view, BASED ON SCIENCE FACT. When Shirow Masamune wrote the original comic book, he was speculating about a thing called the internet, which had not even been born or even named yet for that matter. Today, we know it as the internet, but back then after this comic appeared on scene, it was called (and still is by some) the World Wide Web. Some say he created the internet as we know it. But he merely is adept at studying what scientists are researching at the moment. That is the mark of a TRUE WRITER. Some have said that this TV series is too derivative of the movies, and tries to be unnecessarily heady most of the time. I argue by asking my own question, "yeah, and what's wrong with that?".Read full review
