I was originally wanting Ram Jam's first album but couldn't find it but found this one instead which includes their 1st and 2nd albums and that's great, doubling the music is always a big Plus! The sound quality is good on the CD and all the physical characteristics of the CD, jewel case are good as well. If you are looking for Ram Jam you might as well just pick this one up.

I always loved Black Betty but never knew who did it. The cd has 6 good songs on it and the rest are kind of B side songs. Good buy for the money.

This "Best of" is essentially the bands two albums; "Ram Jam" from 1977, and "Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Ram" from 1978. The singles "Black Betty" and "Turnpike" recieved plenty of airplay in Houston. Although it strays between real mello and heavy rock, this album does have some excellent songs. My favorites: 1. Black Betty 3. Keep Your Hands On The Wheel 10. Too Bad On Your Birthday 11. The Kid Next Door 12. Turnpike 19. Gone Wild 20. Pretty Poison
As they say in enfotainment (eh), "all you need is one hit." No band proves this adage more than Ram Jam. Even if that one-hit wonder wasn't penned by any of its members. It (Black Betty) was originally done by legendary Bluesman, "Lead Belly." Lyrically, Ram Jam is on par with Kiss, Foghat, et al. Disposable lyrics that often take the backseat to the sound at hand. There are quite a few good numbers contained herein, but nothing that stands out as much as "Black Betty." Perhaps that's why Ram Jam will always remain a musical novelty.
An excellant quality cd.
