This movie doesn’t get nearly enough recognition for its comedic genius. Great cast. Great story. Fun mockumentary style movie. Memorable & quotable. Glad I was able to get my hands on a hard copy since it isn’t streaming anywhere.

This DVD was scratched so bad it didn’t work. I was extremely disappointed and frustrated because this is one of my old time favorite movies . I planned a movie night , invited friends, assuming that the dvd would play but it was unreadable and I tried it in several different dvd platers . Totally irresponsible to send damaged goods . Very Disappointed.

This a a great semi-dark comedy send-up of teen beauty pageants...a documentary film crew is following all the girls and their families while they get ready for the pageant...the film features several beautiful young gals, such as Kirsten Dunst(as the goody-goody poor girl) and Amy Adams as the nympho cheerleader(she was the cute nurse with braces in Hanks-DiCaprio film 'Catch Me If You Can')...along with some other not-so-beautiful but funny & quirky young gals as well, like Brittany Murphy. Ellen Barkin is a riot as the trailer park mother..and her best friend, played by Allison Janney, is a gas too. Kirstie Alley looked great, in 1996, and is one of the main comic players as the pageant director, but the film is absolutely filled with many other talented & funny female actors...and there are plenty of very funny male performances as well, like Sam McMurray as the town's rich furniture retailer and father of a dreaded, but expected-to-win, pageant contestant...there's even a cameo by Adam West(TV's Batman). The movie is set in a small town in the northern state of Minnesota, and so the accents, used very well by the actors, are a part of the comedy...I'm not going to spoil it for you by telling too much, if you haven't seen it before....just know that it's a very funny movie - full of laughs! I don't know what some of you gals might think, but as far as us guys go, a movie with lots of laughs and lots of pretty gals is a winner every time! This is a FUNNY movie... Enjoy!Read full review
I saw this movie years ago when it was first released and thught it was hillariouse. It was recentlly on cable, and is just as funny as the first time I watched it. I've never personally been in any sort of beauty competition, but my younger cousin has; and just like little league parents, beauty moms are a breed unto themselves! Kristi Alley was fantastic in her role, and kirsten dunst was adorablely goody-two-shoes in hers. It's got a lot of great actors; will sasso is very funny as the mentally challanged son of a locall pageant judge. And Denise Richards is an entirelly beleivable pretty little rich girl. I'd definitlly recomend watching it for a few hours of light fun.
My granddaughter and I used to watch this movie every night when she was younger. I was happy to have found another copy. She is in her twenties now, but was just as excited as I was to find another copy.
