I bought this movie for my dad for Christmas and watched it with him last night. This movie is phenomenal by even todays standards, this ranks up there with True Grit, Good the Bad and the Ugly, and Apaloosa. Charles Bronson gives a grade A performance in this mystery Western that includes all the classic standbys train hold ups, sleezy politicians, tough bad guys, damsels in distress, and your good old western brawls. It is also filled with intrigue and suspense. The cinematography is excellent and the script is supurb. This is a must see whether you like westerns or not.
A great western flick on board a train. people are dying left and right and you are not really sure who is good or bad until the end. It keeps you on you're toes for suspence and it has an all star studed cast. The wreck of the troop cars and caboose was done with full size cars and not models. It proves that some things never change, there will always be people screwing others over for some lousy piece of change.
This civil war period movie is very well done. Great cast with Charles Bronson, Ben Johnson, Richard Crenna and former football player Joe Kapp. The plot is what I really liked because it is feasible. There are no super-heroes or digitized effects. The wardrobe is excellent across the board. The scenery is breathtaking. I would recommend this to anyone over 14 yrs.old, great to make some popcorn and watch on a Fri. or Sat. night.!
Great film from a classic age, one of the best steam power movies ever.
