I am an adult college student. About 20 years ago, I took Algebra I and II, Geometry, and Trig in high school. After a career change, I decided to go into teaching math to high school students and went back to college. I didn't want to waste money on taking math courses to "catch up" before taking the necessary courses for my Math/Teaching degree program. I used this book to brush up on Calculus so I wouldn't have to spend valuable time and money. College courses are expensive, you know. This book explains the basic principles of Calculus in an easy, conversational language. That makes the reader take in the information quicker. The short cuts and "no nonsense" explanations helped me prepare to take the required college Calculus class without any problems. I highly recommend this book for any teenager or adult student whose interested in getting a better understanding of what Calculus is, and why it's important. The novice reader can also take plenty of real world, usable, knowledge of Calculus for his or her work environment. One may be surprised at all the real world applications of Calculus and how it can be used to better understand carpentry, motion, economics, etc.Read full review
The key to understanding Calculus, or anythng for that matter, is to look at it from as many different perspectives as possible. This book is great because it provides the reader a different point of view than they may have seen before. Textbooks usually make for extremely dry reading. Calculus for Dummies isn't necessarily exciting, but it's written in a conversational tone using easy-to-understand language. It also provides a lot of examples, which are very helpful. Don't expect it to be easy. A good understanding of Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry is needed - NEEDED - to get through this book. If you don't have a good foundation in those three subjects, you might want to review them before getting into Calculus for Dummies. The book definitely makes Calculus easier to understand. But it's still not easy.Read full review
Well, not yet, but I'm on my way thanks to this book. I never had calculus in high school and am an engineering major with 6 math classes to take. This book helped a ton to bridge the gap between advanced algebra and calculus. Really, there's nothing too difficult to it if you are really good at algebra and can understand big concepts. The author is funny and holds your attention well. I found myself picking this up at first to read it for fun! But I'm a dork so not everyone will do that. -A great book to aid a college class or to quench your knowledge for calculus.-
I bought Calculus for Dummies for my granddaughter who is attending college and is taking Calculus. She is doing well with her studies, but as with most books in the "Dummies" series, the subject is presented in plain English and is very understandable. It is a good tool for her to reinforce what she is learning in the classroom and with her textbook. I also got the Calculus for Dummies Workbook, which provides real math problems relevant to the topics covered in Calculus for Dummies. Based on feedback from my granddaughter, I highly recommend it!

I read this book at the library from front to back. I like that all the problems are the ones that you can do if you understand the Calculus. It wasn't anything with the danger of running into obstacles. That way makes learning clear and understandable to someone who has to take their first Calculus exam. I bought this copy to keep a new copy for me since the library only lets you keep the book for two weeks. I rechecked it out three times in a row and they told me that they couldn't let me have the book any longer and I have to return it now.
