This game got overlooked because it came out so late for the wii and because of it's game controls. However, it is a very fun final fantasy game with interesting characters. I also like that it's an action rpg rather than turn-based because it uses the wii remote in very interesting ways.

While not a RPG like other Final Fantasy titles The Crystal bearers is competent and light adventure romp, having more in common with the zelda series this title is more about exploration and compleating tasks to progress. The gimmick of the this game is the protagonist can use magic to pickup and throw objects, people and enemies. This is throwing mechanic is used cleverly and makes combat have a more puzzle like element, unfortunately this does get repetitive and the game doesn't have enough abilities to vary up the gameplay. The wii controls are also a bit finiky, the IR pointer works well but the waggle controls to evade doesn't work as responsive as if they had just been a button. All ogether its a fun adventure that gets a bit repetitive and is undermined by questionable controls.

F.F. Crystal Bearers pushes the Wii to it's limit graphically while presenting a story that is engaging and hard to put down. The settings are sweeping and full of amazing detail. The NPC's are funny and fascinating. Very different from most other Final Fantasy game play, FFCB is much more of an action game. As the Crystal Bearer you possess a sort of levitation power controlled by the Wii remote. Once the player gets the hang of it (and it doesn't take too long) this is a fun and challenging power that forces you to think in other ways of how to survive using this power in all sorts of puzzling situations and inn battle. The game immediately starts in such a thrilling way that I was pulled in and couldn't put down the game for quite some time. Shortly after all of the beautiful and Anime quality cut scenes, you find yourself needing to control a quickly descending airship and steer it safely through the most nail biting terrain. I was left saying only "Wow" after making it safely to the city. I love games like that. The cities and other areas are immersive, loaded with treasure and fascinating characters. Some of the cutest beings that I've ever seen in a game. Gameplay takes you deep into a slowly unraveling story that will keep you playing as well. I don't know how FFCB rated upon it's release, and I imagine that FF purists had issues with it, but as a gamer who has not played much of the FF franchise because of the gameplay style, I found this game to be the most accessible FF game that I've encountered. Dirge of the Cerebus was another FF game that took us in a different direction, but Crystal Bearer does so with all of the FF strong points still intact.Read full review
