I saw this movie more than a decade ago, and had forgotten about it for the most part. For some reason I saw a trailer for it and had to have it. Watched it now these years later and it's far better than I remembered. My whole family, adults and children. My wife clapped at the end. I have to say, I don't think I ever saw DeNiro have so much fun with a role. Great cast, adventure story; just all around great experience.

I love this movie. Sadly, my DVD has a few spots where it must be scratched because the movie stopped and skipped in a few places.

My son brought STARDUST home amongst a bunch of rentals one evening, and we watched them over the span of a few evenings. STARDUST was one of the last ones we watched. Shoulda watched it sooner. It was surprisingly well done. The effects were well-executed. STARDUST is solidly in the fantasy genre, but its dialogue -- like a Looney Tune -- rapidly establishes that it is not kiddie fare. That and its wittiness quickly snagged this hardcore scifi fan's interest. The casting, with big names "stars" doing character roles instead of "Starring" roles, was intriguing, especially Robert DeNiro. NEVER saw THAT one before he brought it out! The movie's seamless flow actually caused me to wonder about whomever it was that came up with its words. Discovered it was written by the same dude who came up with the words for MIRRORMASK. Though MIRRORMASK did not snag my imagination so thoroughly as STARDUST, its events and dialogue did display Neil Gaiman's unique take on the world of words. Think maybe I need to start checking out eBay's book listings for STARDUST. Maybe it's a keeper, too.Read full review
This film surprised me on many levels. First off, it has a lot of kid elements of fantasy that make for a fun family movie night. Secondly, it is film that changes the typical fantasy genre for those who know it well. Romance, suspense, humor all line this film to make it stand out above many of films in the genre. Not to mention that it is well-cast (with some surprising big names in different roles). Highly recommended for the fantasy-lover, the family, or just for a solid pick for a good two-some. If you liked or even disliked "The Golden Compass", this is for you.
This is a great Once Upon a time story for all grownups..the violence and mild language may be too much for the wee ones..so I do not recommend this for any children under the age of 13..Movie begins with a young Man setting out to cross a forbidden border he succeeds and meets up with a young beautiful Girl claiming to be a Princess held hostage by an evil witch..they enjoy time spent together and he returns home..9 mos. later he receives an unexpected package and his life is forever changed..Michelle Pfeiffer(sp?) and Robert Deniro are hysterical in their roles..Claire Danes made a sweet and refreshing star by the way stars appear to have a temper..this film is a fun mixture of comedy, very light suspense, and of course love that will have everyone smiling by it's end!! Don't miss this one!!Read full review
