For this student of the history of the Pearl Harbor attack of December 7, 1941, I read Days of Infamy as a followup to Gingrich and Forstchen's Pearl Harbor. The authors premise that things would have been different if Yamamoto had lead the attack instead of Nagumo was weakly depicted in the books. It appeared to this reader that Days of Infamy simply pulled some elements of the battle of Midway forward along with a fictional battleship shelling of Oahu following the attack on Pearl Harbor. History has shown that Japan had neither the resources nor the talent to prevail in WWII. While successfully teased by the marketing promise, the modified rehash of events of the surprise attack on December 7th of '41 and the fictional events that followed left this reader disappointed when the second and final book of this series was read. I do not know how these books faired as a money making venture, but as literary or historical work, they were disappointing.Read full review
Having been a teenager during WWII and watching history in the making I find it to hard to stay with the idea that "this could have happened". Yes, Gingrich and Forstchen did the same thing in their great book "Pearl Harbor". The thing that grips me most is that this could have happened. Read it even if you know what really happened but keep in mind that it could have happened another way. Difficult to to put down but these tired old eyes often call for a rest.
