The 1975 Chilan peso is no great rarity, but is a 1 year type with O'Higgins' title added the next year. Three years later the alloy changed to aluminum-bronze and in 1981 the coin was down sized by 60 percent (inflation!).I visited Chile in 1977 and this type peso was hard to find in circulation at that time. It is also reasonable to believe that the 1st issue of new peso coins (1975-80) were slowly withdrawn from circulation simply as a matter of uniformity and maybe to profit the mint by recycling the metal as new coins. Uncirculated coins from this period are somewhat scarce.
