Cliche but fun
It's your 1950's era slave-versus-evil-Senator epic. I bought it for the 3-D and the 3-D is very good. Each character is exactly what you'd expect, and epitomizes the role. Hokey and predictable but well done.

This movie has maybe two gladiator scenes, and one practice scene. It combines many of the same elements as the movies I mentioned up above. A young child sees his family killed and later as they fast forward 17 years he is a slave and a gladiator. He falls in love with a young lady of worth and good standing. Unfortunately for him, a corrupt senator wants her to himself. This is really what the story, at least to me is about. It's about love, brotherhood forged through being a gladiator, and freedom. Among these themes is also Mt Vesuvius, Pompeii, and a Tsunami caused by the eruption if I have it correct. I loved the acting between the two in love, and Kiefer Sutherland was fantastic as the senator. If your in to special effects then you will or should love this movie. It has it all. That being said, I think they could have made an epic film, although three hours long to really capture this brilliant story. I would love to see another series done like they did with Spartacus, only done with this movie. Easily a four or five season story with this writing. If you want to be entertained and enjoy a love story, some fighting but not bloody, along with special effects and some history of what happened to the ancient city of Pompeii then you will love this movie. You cant expect it to be like Braveheart, Gladiator, or Spartacus, only some common themes will be noticed. It is 5 stars entertainment. The star of the movie, the gladiator, he is an amazing actor and he played this role to perfection and just made the movie that much better. So if you want some fun, and something a little different, give this a try. I don't think you can go wrong in watching it. I was more then entertained with this movie. Enjoy....Read full review
