I got it out of the box. No damage, thats good. Put wheels on it,handles, gas, oil. Hooked up the battery ground strap and hit the key. It started right up. Plugged a heater into it, Let it run for a few minutes under light load. Hooked up another heater and set both to high temp. It ran both easy. This is a very nice genset and works great! GREAT VALUE! Ya cant beat the price. I have owned 3 of these and never had any problems. I use them to power the r.v. AC unit, or the home if I have power failure. I really enjoy the wheel kit, no more sore back. I do feel they are louder than whats described, but not bad. I hope this helps!

This product needs some assembly and there is no manual or assembly instructions. Have a wiring harness and no idea where to install it. Must be necessary because unit will not run!! Would be nice to have a manual for assistance. How can I get a manual??? Did get a manual e-mailed to me and have ordered a new printer to print it because mine gave out printing the 34 page manual. No wiring harness as received in the parts list so will use the wires for other projects! Very reasonable price for this generator!

My DuroMax 4400 generator arrived assembled except for the wheel kit. Assembling the wheel kit was not difficult, but handling of the unit's weight (100 pounds + -) while avoiding personal injury or damage to the generator was of concern, so I had some help. Beside assembly, an angle iron and wooden board supporting the bottom of the unit during shipping had to be removed. Fortunately, the instructions are pretty good and include photos that actually help. One Phillips screwdriver, two spanner wrenches (10mm,13mm), a spark plug wrench, assembly instructions and an illustrated, well-written owner's manual are in the box. I used a few more tools such as pliers and a metric socket set for easier assembly. A funnel is provided for filling the crankcase with oil, but the oil is not included. Twenty ounces of 10W-30 oil is required for most environments - but refer to the chart provided in the owner's manual to be sure of which weight of oil to use. Once filled with oil and fueled, the generator started easily and ran smoothly. There is very little vibration while running. I was pleased with how quiet it is. The governor responded well to light changes in electrical load and the output voltage seemed stable. The unit has an impressive and very functional control panel. It has a tubular frame with rounded corners and there are no sharp edges. A fuel level indicator located on top of the tank is a very nice feature. The bright blue fuel tank contrasts boldly with the black frame and control panel. Overall, for a generator set, it has a nice appearance. Some of the things I do not like about it are: (1) the generator stator guard is flimsy; (2) after sitting a few hours, the non-inflatable rubber tires flatten a bit and the rubber cushions of the support feet stick to my garage floor; (3) the control panel has a rather small grounding stud that is equipped with hex nuts, and (4) the recoil starter rope must be pulled at a fairly sharp angle or its a knuckle buster. Time will tell whether the stator guard is adequate or not. Some extra muscle is needed to lift the sticky rubber feet off the floor. The flattened tires round out after rolling a bit, but initially these wheel kit issues make moving the unit harder and more awkward than it should be. I am replacing the hex-nuts with wing-nuts for easier grounding and accepting the starter rope angle as a minor thing. The wheel kit issues are a nuisance. All said, I am pleased with my purchase. Kudos to the manufacturer for providing one of the better sets of assembly instructions and a very good owner's manual.I can recommend the DuroMax 4400.Read full review
The negative reviews about this generator made me very cautious about buying it, but I finally gave in because of the great price I got. As others claimed, the box arrived pretty ratty and just plopped on the front porch, but the generator itself wasn't damaged at all. Good packing. I had to call service to ask about the owner's manual, but he directed me to where it was hidden on the machine. Why couldn't they just put it on top??? Anyway, he was pleasant and helpful; something I wasn't expecting. The wheels are indeed pretty lousy, but I replaced them with some better ones for $12. Added oil and gas, followed starting instructions and it cranked up after about 10 seconds and ran like a champ. I'm glad I got the electric start. I've had it about 6 weeks now and have run it 4 times for about 15 minutes each time. I marked it 4-star because I haven't run it for several hours yet. That's the real test that is coming up in a couple of months. My worry was if it would really run my travel trailer as DuroMax claims, especially the AC and microwave together. When I put it to the test it ran both (AC on high) with no problem. So I added all the lights and stab jacks and still no problem. It never wavered or blew a circuit. I am pleasantly surprised. Anyway, it meets my expectations. In spite of the fact that some people may have gotten a lemon, I would recommend it. Mine is working great. BTW - the instruction manual is very thin and stuffed between the generator and the gas tank. It does take two people to lift it into a pickup, so I built a wood ramp and roll it up into the bed. Don't kill your back trying to lift it yourself.Read full review

I purchased this generator in order to provide backup power along with recreational use while RV camping or hunting. I considered pairing 2 x 2000 watt (peak) inverter generators which would have been significantly quieter, however cost at least 4x as much as this single unit which also has a greater peak output rating. This model has a particularly low noise level for a "construction" style generator which is comparable to a lot of the inverter style units running in normal (not "econo") mode, though it lacks the better pure sine wave inverter feature of the more expensive units. The unit shipped quickly and arrived undamaged and well packaged in a large cardboard shipping box. In addition to the generator plus wheel kit mine also included all necessary tools for assembly, an oil funnel, 12v charging cable and the operators manual. It was easy to assemble for first time use (bolt on the wheels, feet and handles, remove the shipping bracket from the engine, add 10w30 oil + gas) and I had mine ready to start in less than 15 minutes. I did note that mine shipped with a small amount of oil in the crankcase which I drained before adding fresh synthetic oil. Mine started on the second pull and hummed along smoothly for about 5 minutes before I tested the output and noted stable 115v and 220v performance. I connected my 3/4 HP bench grinder (max 50a locked rotor start) to one of the 115v outlets and fired it up to see how the generator would handle the very high locked rotor amperage requirement. While the generator slowed for a moment when I hit the power switch on the grinder, it kept running and supplied a consistent 115v output the entire time. I also connected it to my camper (4 prong 120/240v outlet via an adapter to 30a/115 3 prong) and tested the 11k BTU air conditioner and microwave at the same time without any issues. This isn't a quiet generator by any means though the large included muffler does a respectable job compared to a number of similar looking generators I've worked with. There is no "econo" or "idle" mode and this unit will run at the same engine speed all the time. If noise is a concern I'd suggest building and using a baffle box with this generator, particularly while camping. Based on the 3500 running / 4400 watt surge rating this generator should be good for 30 amps sustained with close to 40 amp peak usage @ 115 v (halve that for 220v loads). For people not on well + septic, one of these plus a 30a transfer kit wired up to half a dozen of your most critical circuits could provide some low cost insurance to keep your sump pump, fridge, freezer, furnace fan and a few lights running in the event of an extended power outage.Read full review
