This camera is great for shooting video with a great zoom on a tripod. Of course it’s not going to beat the high end cameras in terms of super high quality photos and videos, but is very nice quality from what I’ve seen so far. The battery is a small battery so not too long life. I actually got a dummy battery and hook it up to a battery bank for long shooting video. Works like a charm. When getting a dummy battery just know that you must tell the camera it is not a genuine Canon battery before it will let you use it upon starting up the camera. I like that it’s small and can fit into your pocket with a great zoom lens. I also like its WIFI connectivity to my iPhone with the canon camera connect app. I can control zoom and many other shooting menu functions from the app with live feed of the camera’s view screen. The usability of the app with canon cameras is primarily why I chose this camera for shooting video while on a ten foot tripod stand for shooting soccer games. At 60 frames per second video shooting it does a great job to make sure the video is not jittery. Anyway I do love this camera and it does what I need it to do. It cost about as much as it should in its space as a quality point and shoot for quick great quality photos and video capabilities. Read full review

I bought the SX720 to replace my Canon G10, which served me well for 32,000 pictures. The SX 720 has similar controls, and is much thinner (otherwise the same size). On the plus side, the resolution of the SX720 is greater than the G10. On the minus side, the battery door on the SX720 requires sliding a latch vs moving the door forward or back (very minor). Much more significant is that while the G10 was made in Japan, the SX720 is made in China. So, the odds of it having the same quality and reliability are near zero.

Bought it as a gift to replace my wife's SX280HS just in case she needs(?) the additional 20X zoom range the SX720HS provides. She gets excellent results with the SX280 and so do I (am a semi-pro DSLR user) and I saw no need to replace it but she has to have the "latest and greatest" and this seems to handle just as well if not better. I like that it's slightly larger than the SX280, faster through processes and feels good in the hand. No complaints about very good picture quality and though usable the additional zoom range should be used with much care. I'm used to less obtrusive Black cameras and my wife preferred a Red one like her SX280 and this camera in Red seems more widely available and sells for less? It's the buyer's choice and this Seller's good pricing for a Black one clinched the deal-a year down the road it'll widely be $75 to $100 less all over so this price works for me. I have every expectation that it will provide good results and reliability over the 2-3 years usage that we'll get out of it before the next inevitable upgrade.Read full review

The digital zoom is very useful, however it is very easy to get sand into the automatic lens cap and harm the camera. Consider a MagFilter to protect it. Teh camera has many more features than I ever use. It's small size and versatility makes it a good outdoor companion.

This is an awesome camera of its size with 40x optical zoom. The light sensitivity is great and use of auto ISO can address the low light situation perfectly. Instead of taking my 60x Nikon camera on a trip, I can put this one in a pocket. ;-)
