Extremely well thought out. The ash cup eliminates having to remove the messy grills each time before cooking. The hopper drain to store/change pellets is great. The convert from smoker to open grill function is brilliant. Dual temp probes work fantastic. The slightly recessed grills minimize chances of damaging the oven temp probe. The accessory jerky rack fits and functions perfectly. All of the hardware is heavy and should last forever. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased

With all pellet grills there will be hot spots that you will have to learn with your specific grill. Front to back, side to side could differ by 20 degrees. These grills aren't like a propane grill as they take some getting use to and patience. That said this took me about an hour to put together and I gave it the manufacturer 30 min cook @ 350 to "season" it, and turned it down to "high smoke 220." I then put on a sirloin steak and some chicken legs for about 1.5 hours. The Slide & Grill (SG) is awesome, but will flare up on you if you're not watching it. It says you're grilling over direct flame when you slide the heat diffuser away, and it means it. The two probes were great to check both chicken & steak at the same time and seemed to be accurate. Once the steak got to 125 I slid the diffuser away and seared the steak (reverse sear). The steak ended up medium/medium rare with a hint of wood fire grill flavor. The chicken was moist, but with the skin on, didn't take in enough much smoke. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to cook as this isn't a propane grill. AND, the more time you have the more flavor you'll get. "IF YOU ALWAYS DO WHAT YOU ALWAY DID, YOU'LL ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU ALWAYS GOT" TIME TO CHANGE IT UP!! I debated between this and the Camp Chef Woodwind with side sear box ($900), but when I realized you can literally cook over open flame with this I decided there was no need for a propane sear box. I checked NO for heating evenly because it doesn't, and no grill/smoker does for that matter. I checked NO for ease of use because it will take some trial and error with the temp dial, wood chips, meat placement, ash clean out, pellet clean out, pellet storage, ect….. My other grip is that the construction metal isn't very heavy. The lid, for instance, is maybe 1/2 the weight of my current Weber Genesis' lid. I'm sure it won't rust out or anything, but it just isn't quite what you'd expect for $799 MSRP. For this reason I gave it 4 stars, but it may well hold up for 10 years if cared for and covered from the elements. BUT, I truly believe this, or any pellet grill, will be the best piece of cooking equipment you own if you're willing to put time in and learn it's capabilities.Read full review
