ok i have owned a bass pod, a behringer v amp for bass and this zoom bfx-708. the zoom pedal is a toy next to the pod and vamp. however, all of them are going to limit your flexibility to change on the fly, or figure out what is useful and what is not. the bass pod was the best of these three. but, it requires the full system to go forward with them during a performance. they are supposed to be the best at modeling the sound of different amps and speakers. the problem is that they still sound like just tweaking your own amp to imitate what you want. If you want to sound like a cab with an 18" woofer and a tube amp, you will need to go buy one and live with it. if your goal is producing effects like chorus, compression or distortion, the little stomp boxes are the only way i have found that will do that part. so, forget trying to get the modeling packages to just provide effects, your are asking for something it does not do well. Of the stomp boxes for bass the boss like are far and away the better product in the market. the old mxr pedals will give boss a run for the money, next best is ibenez. what makes them the "ones" to get. the mxr's i bought in 1974, and traded them in 2001 for a bass pod. they were still working with no problem. in that trade was an boss t-wah i got in 1985, it was still working. the most useful of all of them was the mxr 10 band eq. run through the channel loop plug in's it boosted my power and gave me virtually any of the sounds i needed to play either my bass or a lead guitar through my amps and get the just what i wanted. digital is very good just don't expect it to do what the individual boxes to do. the little boxes are specialist, and expert at what they do, the modeling boxes are going to dissapoint and frustrate you, unless your can think like the folks who made the modeling devices.Read full review
