My husband has suffered from severe IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and in 2 months lost 20 pounds. He has had many medical tests, procedures and food allergy tests. At the end of the procedures his physician gave him a prescription and told him that he would have IBS the rest of his life. No other hope was given for him. Several friends have recommended The Maker's Diet by Jordan Rubin so we decided to purchase the book and find out what was involved in this diet. It is more than a "diet," it is a radical change in eating and life style. We have begun to apply some of the suggestions highlighted in the book and he is getting better. He no longer is loosing weight and appears to be feeling better. He is still taking the medication recommended by his physician but we are seeing improvements in his health through the changes we are incorporating in our eating. Although the book may seem radical to some, if a person is serious about making changes for their health, it is worth taking time to consider the prinicples given in this book.Read full review
I like "The Maker's Diet" because it is based on dietary guidelines found in the Old Testament. I also like the 40 day concept for permanent change. The diet is relatively easy to stay on and includes one day of partially fasting, which I found was easier to do than I thought it might be. I do have a couple of recommendations: 1. When reading the book, remember the author had been very ill and close to death. I don't think all the additional products (cleansing type products) are necessarily for every person. (Although I do feel the facial solution has helped with my itchy eyes.) 2. You will still get good results even if you can't afford to buy "organic" everything. That's the only "con" I have. I can't afford to buy "organic" everything. I still bought produce at the local grocery store. I bought "organic" as I could. I am feeling better and have lost some weight. I'm just beginning Phase 2 of the program. Overall, I can highly recommend the book.Read full review
I have been using this diet and feel very good on it. It's sensible and easy to do in the real world (i.e. when socializing and eating out, or when in a hurry - there are lots of options). I have tons of energy! I was intrigued by the connections between modern science and biblical guidelines that he talks about. His own story of healing is inspiring! I didn't agree with all of his religious views, but overall a great book and program - tons of sources for information, foods and supplements at the back, too. Finally, i thought he was overly negative/dismissive of other natural diet programs that i believe have helped lots of people, and that are probably a good fit for many body/blood types. This diet is the only one that was healing for him, but i think it would have been more responsible of him to be supportive of other natural lifestyle choices that have helped people, rather than criticizing all of them.Read full review
Author Jordan Rubin has Crohn's disease and had to find a way to treat the disease and stay healthy. Being from a Jewish family there were certain dietary guidelines he followed in order to gain back his health. He chose a Biblically based diet of no refined or processed carbohydrates, a strictly kosher diet. He improved his health and we could all improve our health by following this diet. The all American diet is all processed foods and junk which always leads to major health issues for most of us. This book is a very good read and you can learn a lot based on the information we have concerning dietary guides and our health.
Great book, with so much great needed information about how to eat healthy. How to eat clean like our Maker created our food to be eaten. This book is all about the nature of food and how it is healing to our bodies. I love Mr. Rubin's life story of having severe Crohn's disease and how he almost died from it, but through eating this way and using Homeostatic Soil organisms to heal his body (you have to get the book to learn more about them). If you love to take great care of this body you've been given and help it to function disease and syndrome free and feel great, then this is the book for you.
