Thank you for giving me this opportunity to give you my review. This is one of those rare books where I find it difficult to put down. J. Allen Hynek was a very interesting person, and his job with Blue Book was one of seeking the truth about Flying Saucers. Yet, during his tenure in working for the government, he faced unbelievable opposition from within, as many of the better saucer sighting cases were withheld from him to investigate. Thus through all of this, his belief of their existence increased with each passing case. This great book reveals a great deal about the man, and his fight for truth of this very interesting subject.

The Close Encounters Man is a very good read. I purchased the book to read the actual account of Dr. Allen Hynek and Project Blue instead of relying on dramatization on the History Channel.

This is a well written book packed with compelling details accumulated from vast resources. It's a fascinating read. J. Allen Hynek comes alive as the reader is given insights into his background, development, personal belief systems, and motivations. It's eye-opening to learn about the behind-the-scenes activities and thought processes that were a hidden part of the study of UFOs during this time in history. Hynek was a controversial figure and all aspects of this man and this topic are explored. Well done, Mr. O'Connell, for your access to Hynek's personal files and many interviews with key people in his life.
