I picked this game up sometime in 1993, most likely as a Christmas gift. One of the great things about Sega CD was how much information a CD-ROM could throw at you. Sega CD titles stuffed everything they could fit onto their discs. Willie Beamish was no exception, but what we now consider choppy animation and compressed-to-hell audio was an incredible leap in entertainment from cartridge-based gaming. And while the load times were annoying (and sometimes hung the game up long enough that you could return hours later and it still be stuck on the same frame), this was really a special game unlike any other this console has seen. As you play through the game as the main character (Willie) you get to make decisions that branch off into other storylines. This level of functionality is key in keeping a kid's interest, but the sugar-coating is how a kid can get lost in this game for hours. Why? Because as Willie you're the rebel, fighting the good fight against totalitarian teachers, brutal parental units, and merciless bullies. You're in charge of your own destiny. I think that's something that's missing from a lot of games during this era. I can give this 4 out of 5 stars with a clear conscience. The depth of this interactive story-telling cartoon and the great times I had playing as Willie will never be forgotten. Nor will the dirty (corny) jokes I learned along the way. However, it's difficult to forgive Sierra for the programming bugs in some versions of the game, and the hanging that would frequently happen (and ultimately prevented me from finishing the game). Overall, I wouldn't pass it up for $10 (the 2010 market price for a complete version of the game). The flow of the game may seem snail-pace compared to today's titles, but it's definitely worth a fair shake. It was (and still is) one of the true adventure games.Read full review

The Adventures of Willy Beamish. This classic game is one of the great ones. this game should be a must have for any size video game collection. it is extremely fun to play , I never get tired of playing it from time to time.
Willie was a neat role playing adventure that tests your devilishness as you break out of detention. The whole game was both graphically and audibly enjoyable. But unfortunately, you spent more time waiting for the loads than actually playing the game. Sierra really shows promise with this title. Hopefully they will find a way to improve the load times.
