I used to play this game with my neighbors back in the day when it first came out, now it’s being over 10 years since I first played it and recently acquired an old copy of it from eBay; and let me tell you that is no joke that I consider this game the best NES game I ever played. I got a newer version NES system and I was wondering what game to buy and the only one that came to mind was Crash ‘n’ The Boys: Street Challenge. I played hundreds of games but none that I would consider buying to play again. I did try to play some of them but I was butchering those good old memories I used to have of them; so is better to leave the past behind and just remember how good they were. In this game there are five events: 400 meter hurdles, hammer throw, swimming, rooftop jumping, and the fighting scene. Contrary to the event names, you try to beat down your opponent in 3 of the 5 events. Like in the hurdles, you try to smash through the hurdles so you can pick them up and chuck them at the guy in the next lane; also you can jump and spin kick in the air not to let your opponent by and timing is essential. In the Swimming event you try to drown your opponent by fighting under water and trying to take breaths as you run out of air. And then there is the fighting scene where you basically have to fight and use certain moves to beat your opponents. The other 2 events are the Hammer throw and the Roof Top Jumping were you basically have to do what the title of the event says. The graphics were kind of primitive but the fun factor overwrote that. It’s extremely fun when you play with 4 other people that know what they are doing and when playing single mode there are 3 modes to choose from. Basically you can turn it on and play whichever event you feel like playing at the time by using the practice mode; or you can do a 5 event competition for the full challenge and if you are not good at all the events you can do a 3 event competition. Seriously, if you ever heard of this game and never gave it a try, you my friend missed out on hours of fun with the NES.Read full review
MANY days of my youth were spent playing this game with buddies. Best way to describe this game would be 'Ghetto Olympics'. 400 meter full contact hurdles, hammer throw golf, pole vaulting over rooftops, and MORE. It's a fun game when you are playing single player, but the fun REALLY starts when you have a bunch of friends that are playing together in a tournament. I would rate this game as a 9.5 out of 10. Not positive if it is 2 or 4 player max, but I believe that only 2 players compete head to head in events anyways.
I originally bought this product simply as an addition to my collection. However, the fun addition to the style of Super Dodgeball was a great addition in the end. The games are fun and a great way to challenge a friend. The graphics are great if not a little silly, but the champion of the game is the competition. Definitely a great buy, a great addition to any collection, and a great NES game!
This is a great NES game. Too bad Technos is no longer around, a remake is definitely in order. I would recommend this game to anyone with a NES.
