Most people interested in this type of game are already aware of the Idolm@ster series. For those not in the know, you take the role of a producer who needs to create the next famous Idol group. You choose from a roster of girls, who all have their strengths and weaknesses, and unique personalities. You start out performing with one girl, then your group grows as your performances go well. You play a rhythm game portion where you must time the buttons accurately, then you can perform an encore where you tell your Idol when you perform special moves throughout the song. Between stages you will have dialogue with your Idols, recruit new Idols, decide on uniforms and track lineup. It is simple to follow and navigate the menus, even though there are no English language options that shouldn't stop someone from getting the basic enjoyment out of the rhythm game portions. My level of Japanese is slightly above a novice and was able to get the jest of what was going on. This may be a good game for someone like myself who is somewhat familiar with the language, but wouldn't understand something with a lot of period-specific, or cultural specific words. The story is about the length of Persona 4 Dancing All Night, but I imagine with a better understanding you could spend a significantly longer time enjoying the other features.Read full review
