Bought this game because when I was a kid, I had a copy and played it until the disc wouldn't work anymore. For those complaining about the PS2 version being 'shitty', and saying the PS3/Xbox 360 version was better, you should know anything on PS2 won't be the very best. This version of Proving Ground is more like an arcade copy compared to the actual game on the PS3/Xbox 360. Yes, it doesn't have stunning visuals and most of the elements are removed, but it still keeps most of the story there and you can still freely explore and customize. Would recommend buying all copies of this game because it is getting hard to find at a decent price

I haven't played through the game so far, but it seems like the ps2 version was obviously not the focus when the game was made. I'm glad they still brought the game to such an old system, but the graphics were not great, the missions seemed really simple and unimaginative, and the music wasn't what I have come to expect from Tony Hawk games. All in all if you can get it cheap it's a good purchase for the ps2, but it won't blow your mind by any stretch of the imagination.
I ALLOWED MY SON TO DO THIS REVIEW, WHO BEST WOULD GIVE A REVIEW ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS, OTHER THAN A TEENAGER: The best things about this game is that you can do your tricks in slow motion unlike some other Tony Hawk games. Also that it is very tricky at times and have to think harder unlike the other games. Also it has awesome graphics and looks totally real. It is kinda like the other games like the goals and stuff but more challenging, and you get way into it more. You can customize your own skater and get more things Ex. skateboards, clothes, etc. If you love skateboarding and you want to see how to do some more tricks the slow motion mode shows how and which way to kick to do the trick. That is why I think this game is excellent.
I bought it because I've heard about it from friends for a long time. It's my first Tony Hawk game, and I wanted it because it allows you to get off the skateboard and walk around. One of the things I dislike is the graphics, which are not clear. I think it would work better as an x box game than a Playstation game. The best part is the split screen for two players.
If you're into skateboarding games I definitely recommend this one. First of all it has multiply story modes (career, rigger, hardcore). When you finish all of them you can just skate around on course you build or complete various goal checkpoints. This game is challenging at times but it's nothing a few tries and a little skill can't handle.
