beaterator strives to provide handheld daw for the psp. it is filled with tons of loops and also features a simple subtractive va synth. there is a bit of confusion with its interface when you first begin to use it but you catch on soon enough. its actually very flexible and way more functional than the korg ds10 and it sounds a lot better too. there is several different modes you can work in. the play mode is pretty anemic and goofy. a cartoon rendering of timbaland rocks out as you mash beat matched loops. this gets pretty boring after about five minutes if and does not touch on the possibilities of this program. there is unlimited potential here once you get into song crafter mode. if you are a seasoned electronic musician you can also import wavs into the unit of your outboard gear. i have not tried this yet but it is doable. there is also a mic you can get to track vocals direct into the psp. i have my severe doubts about the quality. all kinds of effects are available for the tracks. delay verbs comp and distortion. there is also bit rate distortion. if you are creative enough you could most likely do a glitch set using just this piece of gear alone. there is some aliasing on the samples it does sound pretty lofi at times but remember a lot of classic hiphop music was made using lofi samplers. so its up to you if you think that is good or bad. this unit wont do acid very well. if you are looking for a palm sized tb303 clone this aint it. over all the sounds are good and some of the droom sounds excellent. the precanned beats are kind of used up but get creative and you can make them your own. if you have a psp and are thinking about getting into making your own music this is the hottest ticket in town. if you have a studio filled with gear and want a pocket device this make be up your alley as well. it does simple midi files you can dump out into your sequencer on your puter. not much i can say that isnt great about beaterator. if this was on the market fifteen years ago many electronic music people would have sold there soul to have it. for the twenty odd bucks it goes for its money well spent.Read full review
Pretty good game for basic beat making
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: New
Beaterator is a great game. I recommend this PSP game to anyone who loves music and would enjoy making some.
This is a good music maker. It gives good tools to make good music and also lets you upload your songs for others to hear and download your songs.
I like that you can import your own beats and export your tracks, ideal for those times when you want to mix a track on the go.
