Overall this game is good but not great. They provide a nice selection of vehicles which must be earned and a wide variety of different race types, even if some of them are a little silly. Graphics, sound and physics are all pretty good. My main criticism is that they did not stay true to the original Colin McRae rally games, so pure rally enthusiasts probably will not like it. Instead of long challenging rally stages with proper split times, they chose to go in a more extreme, bro-y, x-games direction with much shorter, more intense races. For example, one of the goals is to become friends with other drivers and earn dumb shit to put on your dashboard or hang from your rearview. None of that has anything to do with rally racing.

I wanted to go for a drive. This game doesn't allow you to do that without jumping through a lot of hoops.. You have to play the game and work your way up. Graphics are mediocre.

Dirt 2 is one of the best new racing games out there - however, it has some drawbacks. Read on to find out more. Graphics: 9/10 The graphics is one of the best points of the game, with multiple camera angels when driving and actual in game damage which affects the look and performance of your vehicle. There is lots of detail put into all aspects of the game, even the scenery. However, in certain areas (under bridges, in shadows) and at high speeds it can get rather difficult to see where you are going. Gameplay: 7.5/10 The only other racing games I've played are NFS: Underground Rivals and Burnout revenge, so I don't have much of a basis for comparison. However, from what I can tell, Dirt 2 is really quite astounding. You start out as a rookie driver and receive a free car. From there you live in an RV and the menu consists of things around the RV and outside of the RV. There are several unique features including a rewind option that lets you prevent crashes and get an upper hand on the rivals. You can also build relations with other drivers and win upgrades by leveling up to the maximum of level 30. There are a few negatives for the game play however - if you are used to a game where you take 180s at 150MPH, you're in for a shock - even at lower speeds it is easy to spin out making driving mildly frustrating. In addition, figuring out the friend system has been lost on me - I might be missing something, but it seems that making friends has some form of randomosity to it. Sound: 8/10 Other drivers talk to you, but the voices are all the same. Accurate crash noise and location volume and a nice sound track. Expansion: 8.5/10 You can unlock quite a number of things in the game which provides many hours of game play. There is a multitude of types of races and there are lots of interesting locations and challenges. However, it gets repetitive after a while. Have not played online yet so I can not rate. Overall: 8.5/10 Pros: Amazing graphics Lots of gameplay Great menu and overall driving experience Good amount of unlockables and expansions Cons: Hard to control car through sharp turns Other drivers get boring after a while Many aspects of the game become repetitive So it is.....Read full review
Great racing game, very realistic handling of the cars, this game takes a while to get used to, if you like more the arcade style of driving then this is not the game for you. It will test your patience since the cars are very hard to control. This is not like Need for Speed or games like those. Graphics are amazing, and there are a variety of racing styles and tracks. It ranges from the classic timed rally run from point to point, to head to head races with dun buggies. It's not like a simulator though, they kept the driving feel of a simulator, without the mind blowing set up of the car. You can't choose tires, compounds tire pressure, individual gear ratios and all the crazy adjustments. You can set the car up before each race, and they are simple factors such as downforce: you can set it higher or lower, and if you don't know what all these settings are, they explain it briefly if you press a button. This way is more user friendly, but it still feels like a real racing game. Overall I give it an 8.5 out of 10, because I like the more advanced set up of the car and this one lacks it. Great game nonetheless. If you're into Rally and off road racing, this is a must have. If you're buying it for PC make sure you use a joystick, not the keyboard. You need modulation in everything you do. Hope this helps.Read full review
