I've played Dungeon Siege and the expansion, Legends of Aranna on the PC and absolutely loved them. When I heard about Throne of Agony for the PSP I thought it would be pretty good. Well, it's not exactly like I thought but for a PSP game it's pretty good. I expected it to be ALOT like the PC game but it's different, Not in a bad way though. I haven't played it enough to comment on the storyline but as far as gameplay goes I find the controls fairly easy. (Though it would be easier if I had the instrution booklet.) I've been enjoying running around and beating up the enemies and taking on the missions. I can't really find any flaws with this game save for the fact that you can't create your own character the way you could in the PC game and that it would also be nice to have spells like in the PC game, a healing spell would be nice in situations where you've run out of health potions in the middle of a mission. This game is so different from the Dungeon Siege on the PC that I almost forget that's Dungeon Siege but all in all it's an excellent game for those who like a good rpg to go and any fan of the Dungeon Siege series of games.Read full review
(Edit: 8-19-2010 -Psp cache needs to be set to off in order for crashes to not occur). rating bumped from 2/5 to a 5/5. #Question/Premise: Is It More of a Collectors Item? *Paid: $19.95 (used), which hindsight was $16.00 too much. Yeah, I'd say $3.95 is adequate for a broken game. Which ironically, (or not), is the World's name in which the game takes place in...(ie: The Broken World). *I suppose it was more on my part as to why now I give DS:ToA such a low rating. I had just purchased my first psp system...twas, eager to play my first psp game on it. I wittingly with much celerity/haste/ferver purchased Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony. Without extensive research as to it's play-ability mechanics, I pounded that "Buy-It" now button with no remorse (at the time). Yeah, yeah, haste makes waste...huh? lol. Well, it's mine now...all mine...and I probably won't really ever crack it open from whence the box it now stores itself in. Why do I say such things about DS:ToA? Do tell us why. Well, I was vehemently annoyed by the game shutting down (crashing) on several occasions, (12 or so times). (These crashes occured on intervals of 10 minutes to 30 minutes of game play...however, one could stay in the whole screen all day long smiting monsters that keep respawning every so often building one's level up and gaining precious loot[ies]...but sooner or later the gamer is going to have to traverse to a new loading screen area to advance the plot, sell/buy items and skills for npcs and what-not), as well as update quest(s) thru some gaming event. (Good luck with that by the way). But, maybe you're luck will fair better than mine. *Went on the internet shortly there after my 12th or 13th crash to see if DS:ToA had any known play-ability/problematic issues...as I was a little worried/apprehensive that my newly bought new psp system might be a lemon if perchance DS:ToA was not to be the problem. Sure enough, there was and is a pandemic of sick DS:ToA's UMDs floating out there in other ppls' psp(s) systems. Oh well, ce la vi. *I will mention that I love many parts of the game (the non-crashing parts of course). DS:ToA, seemed like a fair adaption/evolved-hybrid of game mechanics taken from the Dungeon Siege II: Broken World PC game's system (that I so really enjoyed from the DS2:BW game). *What's not to love. Build character(s) of chose, get pets/npcs to tag along (only of which, one at a time may participate/engage in the battle-field with your personal character). Also, you may combat/hack-n-slash mindless versions of your mindless self (the monsters/foes/antagonist/bosses/illusions...or whatever you see fit in doing to those character sprites that exist beyond the looking glass of your psp...lol). *Hey, if it weren't/wasn't for the crashes (personally, for me), I'd would have given this a rating of Blissful-Nirvana-Like-Excellence. It's too bad. It holds mucho potential for being a well deserved game in the audiences' clutching hands...but that's it now...just potential...just like my life. #Conclusion: Potential. ********************************************************************************* P.S.: Maybe you can download from the internet a DS:ToA image onto your psp's hard drive for better results. But, I'm still too new that idea/concept...though it does sound pretty appealing. We'll see. Hope you find what you're looking for out there in the wild wander of gaming, my fellow gaming pioneersRead full review
If you're a fan of the Untold Legends games, then you'll already be familiar with this game and probably won't mind some of its flaws. This game does have its fair share of long load times like some other PSP games. You are able to bring along a "pet" on your single player journey and its not always an animal or creature. These pets or comapanions also level up and you do plus you can choose what skills they use. You can choose from up to three main characters and get charged with quest after quest. I personally lost interest in this game maybe because of the long load times or some of the quests and battles were just not very interesting. If you do get yourself outnumbered in battle, you may find yourself back at the beginning of the particular level you started. This game is not for everyone but it's worth a rent if you're curious.Read full review
This game for psp has its ups and downs......mostly ups :) Pros- This game is the most graphically appealing game I have seen for the PSP. It amazed me when I started playing. There are 3 people to choose from which is less than the pc versions buit come on, It Dungeon Siege on a PSP! Now 3 sounds like few characters but each character has their own specialized skill sets and their own story plot. Its map is ginormous and has hours upon hours of play. The music is matched up really well with most of the levels. Controls are smooth but you have to learn more button combos in this game then most "average" PSP games. Alas though, this game is not average and is awesome. The story is basic but I won't go into detail.(don't want to spoil it) You find all sorts of armor, weaponry, magical items, and trinkets to keep you constantly upgrading unless of course you find all the best stuff. It has online capabilities but hardly anyone is ever on because the game has a few years on it. The game is still very fun by itself. Cons- There are only 2 cons I can think of....... The loading times and sometimes the camera. With the loading, Its only bad when you go out onto the "world" to go to a specified area. Also the load to get to the specified area is long. It never loads in the middle of a level though which is really all that matters. The thing I have to say about the camera is sometimes I wish I could control it. It is a well done auto camera but I would like to be able to rotate it...... O well P.S. This is a hack and slash but it has many moves, mercenaries, custom abilities, and enemies to keep anyone entertained. Also this is not a game you play 10 minutes at a time. You got to play about 30 minutes at the least to get anything done. Gamers Rating: 10/10 The cons aren't that bad and this is the best game I own on PSP! THIS IS MY FIRST REVIEW SO DON'T BE TO HARSH ( 'o') (That's Kirby) 0 0Read full review
This is a must have game for your PSP collection (this is my first time playing a Dungeon Siege game).I only have five minor problem's.One is the character's.I did'nt personaly like the three that you can choose from (I suffer from OCD and get annoyed over stupid little thing's when it come's to character's).They are a Mage,Barbarian and a female I think she was a rogue or thief.I usally choose the barbarian class but I was'nt happy with his look and chose the Mage (he has the best skill's/magic in my point of view). Two you get the ability to choose from two type's of familiar's (depending on who you choose). They all look really cool but you can't equip any armor or item's well pretty much anything on them.I understand the animal type's not having weapon's but you should be able to at least put armor on them. For human familiar's you should be able to put both weapon's and armor or to just even it out just weapon's but you can't.Three you have to pay to equip your familiar's stat point's (they raise in price the higher they get).Four the world map and teleporter's take forever to load (note only these two thing's take long everything else load's fast). The last in your very limited in how much you can carry. This depend's on your strength.I think every five point's equal's one item. Now here's the good. The story well each character has their own story and I viewed all three and are very good and interesting. The graphic's are very good by far at the top my list with the best. The speed and tone of the action is really great.Ton's and ton's of hack and slash fun. This game is worth your hard earned money.Read full review
