Product Information
Escape From Monkey Island is the fourth episode in the critically acclaimed series from Lucasarts. Monkey Island veterans should be pleased by the opportunity to become reacquainted with Guybrush, Elaine, LeChuck, and many of the other characters made famous (or infamous) in previous games. Players control Guybrush Threepwood, the mighty pirate, as he tries to foil the plans of an Australian real estate developer and the "new" menace, Charles L. Charles, from taking over the Tri-Island Area. Given several choices of dialogue and actions when certain situations are encountered, players must decide which items to use in various locations in order to advance the plot of the game.
The Monkey Island games are known for deep storylines, beautiful animations and backgrounds, and a clever, pun-laden sense of humor. Escape From Monkey Island is no exception. Each of the characters has professional voices accompanying their dialogue, and players will have to venture all over different islands to uncover the mystery of The Ultimate Insult.
Escape From Monkey Island features 3D graphics and a system that coordinates the sounds and music with the mood of the story. While it relies upon previous episodes for depth and background information, players new to the Monkey Island series can enjoy the game as well.
Escape from Monkey Island is a nice way to re-experience the classic SCUMM computer adventures of yore (many that Lucasarts released in the late 80s, like Secret of Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion, Loom, etc.). The game has a great sense of humor, and I was pleasantly surprised that the interface worked well on the PS2 (versus using a mouse on the computer adventures). The 2D graphic backgrounds are drawn beautifully, but the the 3D characters are not the best...though typical of the time (maybe a little earlier...think N64 or PS1 where 3D was all the rage). Overall its recommended!
I am a fan of the Monkey Island video game series. This one (just like the others) makes you think about how to go about from one step to the next; who should you talk to, what should you carry around, how to get necessary items in unusual ways, etc, and there are plenty of gags along the way.
My only complaint is within the game itself; there are some parts that I feel are TOO detail oriented, repetitive, and too time consuming.
Overall, if you liked any of the first Monkey Island games, give this one a try. If you've never played any of them, give it a try anyway.
I bought this item on a whim. I was speaking to some friends about this series and remembered how I missed my chance several years ago to get this cool game. So I searched it up on eBay and purchased it. Once I got the game, I was surprised at the difficulty level. I didn't remember it being this hard. But honestly, this isn't a game for the faint of mind. Get this if you enjoy both challenging puzzles and great sense of humor. In my case, I may need some help...but it was worth getting for sure. And the price is great for it's age and rarity level. I got mine for around 20 bucks, and it was like new. So if you are looking for a good gift or something to keep yourself occupied with, go on ahead and give this a try.
This is the best game I have ever layed my hands on and most challenging. IT IS HARD. There are 7 levels. i don't think a living human being could beat this game without the strategy guide. i was stuck on the 2nd level for over 2 years. i finnaly beat it with the strategy guide. so if you like challenging games, fighting monkeys, swash buckling pirates, Austrailian guys, insults, and termite circus this is the perfect game for you. it also makes perfect chistmas, birthday, and for the heck of it gift.
