Everyone addicted to the first installment of this game will like the second. Many new things added, but some of the additions are not good. Like the "continue" on the vs mode... makes it REALLY easy to beat... just keep trying and eventually you will win. The levels are great though... some people don't like the videos as levels, and you may get sick of some of them, but they really add a challenge to it, because you're watching the video and trying to play the game at the same time. I found Lumines I to be a little more challenging, but this one has a lot more to offer. With not many great games for the PSP, this is one of the gems. Have fun!
I bought Lumines II because I loved Lumines I. i thought that there would be some new elements implemented but to my disappointment, it is virtually the same game, only with much worse music and no difference in actual gameplay. If you're looking for something new, don't bother, it's not here. If you are looking for more diverse music, you'd do better listening to your local college radio station. There are now full music videos playing in the background, but i mean, who really want to watch gwin stefanni shouting bout hollaback girls? There are a few nice elements of music in it, many of the original songs are here still, slightly remixed and interspersed among the regular songs and videos that make up the mix now. Beck, Hot Chip, Missy Elliot, and the Go Team all have songs on here, but as I mentioned before, there are many other songs on here that just don't fit. It's like some Sony Music Executive got the brilliant idea too turn Lumines into a platform for their music department but just didn't know what to use and decided to put "everything that is new." Gameplay itself is now split into three access points for novice, intermediate and advanced players but it's like they didn't even listen to what most fans wanted, which was the ability to continue your game where you left off. Instead youu have three separate games, each of which are just a little bit faster. Puzzle mode is here too, with some new puzzles added in in addition to the old ones. As a matter of fact, near as I can tell, all of Lumines I is here, just split apart and fragmented by all of these other elements that just don't work. All in all, buying Lumines I would be my recomendation. My other recommendation would go to Sony and for that one I would say "quit repackaging stuff in the guise of something new. leave well enoug, alone, or spend a little time making something new and differnet if you want the fans money and don't want them to feel ripped off. Just my two cents.Read full review
For anyone who has played the 1st one, there's no reason you'll not like the 2nd one. There are some setbacks, but those can be easily taken care of. Let's get to it. In this 1, there are around 97 skins! Instead of 1 challenge mode, there are 3! & when u beat those modes, a 4th one opens up that combines all 3 modes! More puzzles in puzzle mode! The new mission mode for u brainiacs! Unlimited continues in vs cpu mode! Edit & create your own music! Now for the setbacks. Some of the skins are actually streaming music videos. This might distract u in your game. The US selection of songs are rather weak except for Beck & New Order. But you'll love Heavenly Star. But the new mode called Skin Edit mode will allow you to make your own list of skins to play endlessly or a quick 10 skin lap. Single skin mode is gone, but now u can play the vs cpu skins in skin edit mode. Best part of all, every skin from Lumines I except for the 4 that had songs instead of music return in this game, with new & improved looks! So take my word 4 it, this is a must buy!Read full review
Beautiful graphics, great music. This game is not Tetris so do not mistake it for tetris, it functions much differently. Definitely a gem on the PSP
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: New
If you liked the fisrt game you'll love this one. Way more features than the first and an extra game that you will definitely like. Even has music videos during different levels which can throw you off if your not paying attention.
