Decent baseball game. I always play in fast mode so game isn't terribly slow. Only baseball game I have. It's boring if you play too often. So I just throw it in every now and then. Home run derby is the best part of this game.Pitching controls are decent. With hitting it takes a little more getting used to. If your not a patient gamer, this may not be the game for you. Cpu really likes to work the count and throw a lot of junk pitches. This is a good pick up if you can get a good price on it.
First off I'll start by saying this game is pretty good. Maybe on the PS3 anyways. That being said, it is full of bugs of all varieties (baserunning hesitations, fielding bugs, & FREEZING!!!). The worst being the reason why I dislike this game and returned it for good. The game froze for me many times at the locker room scene after I had wasted my time playing through an entire game!!! Finally the game starting freezing at the title loading screen, making the game UNPLAYABLE. I took the game back and exchanged it for another copy, hoping it was the disk. Nope. It still kept freezing after games. So frustrating. So back to the store for it, and I only get store credit! What a pain! I don't know if it was the store, or my PS2, or what. So this is just a warning - Don't buy MLB The Show 08 for PS2!!! Wait until you have enough dough for a PS3 and buy next years game or something to save yourself a few headaches.Read full review
I bought this game because 1. I love baseball, and 2. I hadn't played a decent baseball game since the Triple Play series by EA Sports ended. There really isn't a whole lot to dislike about this game. It took me a while to figure out the controls, because the game I purchased came with no booklet. The analysts on this game are unlike any I've seen on a baseball game before - they actually talk about things happening in the game, and it correlates to the action itself. WHAT A NOVEL IDEA! The stadiums are incredibly realistic, and the features of the crowd and the players is top rate. Game action is very smooth, once you figure it all out. Pitching is simple, hitting gets easier once you figure out how to control your swing. The modes in this game are pretty neat, too. The only aspect that I could think of to nitpick is that there are so many options to chose from when setting up your game, that it can take 10 minutes just to set it all up right. Great for those who love options, slightly less than great for those who don't. Overall, A.Read full review
When I bought this game I heard it was good from my brother and much more challenging than the 2006 version that I owned but I didn't believe it until I got it. This game is great because of the Road to the Show feature. I love building a guy up through the ranks and increasing his abilities, the best part is that you have goals for each week and it makes you focus on making certain parts of your player better. The game is much more challenging than the 2006 version but not to the frustration level. I would recommend this game to anyone who loves the sport of baseball because it is the best baseball game I've ever played!
I've absolutely fallen in love with this game! It's incredibly realistic (other than the default team rankings). The "Road to the Show" mode, which is basically career mode, allows you to create a player and follow him on his path to the big leagues and beyond. There is no such thing as being so dominant to the point of senseless boredom, and there is no such thing as sucking it up unimaginably. The game reflects stats that resemble what any baseball fan would recognize as close to that of reality. So far, I can't get enough of playing this game! Wish me luck on my infant career!
