If you like "sim" games like Animal Crossing, you will love this game. It plays like Animal Crossing. You can fish, catch bugs, breed flowers, furnish your room; just like in Animal Crossing...but there is SOOOOO much more to do in Magician's Quest! You can attend classes at the Magic School and learn incantations and spells that you can cast on yourself and others! You can solve mysteries that plague the town and, unlike Animal Crossing: Wild World, there are so many yearly events (at least one a month!) that there is always something to do! While Animal Crossing shines in some aspects (you can't go crazy designing clothes in Magician's Quest, you can only hold two designs at any one time) and you can't "wallpaper" your town with designs, either. Another downside to Magician's Quest is the fact that everyone has the same town layout, it is not randomly generated. But even taking the negative into account, Magician's Quest: Mysterious Times is still an awesome game! Sure it looks like it is meant for children, the box art almost made me not buy it; but as my wife told me,"if you don't like the game, you can always sell it on eBay!" PS: I did NOT sell it on eBay!Read full review
Wow!! What a fun game. If you are a fan of Animal Crossing but tend to get bored with it, this is for you. If you like games casting magic and solving mysteries this is for you. The one thing nice is if you do not get get all the classes done or things solve in the game you can do it at a later time. The Characters and looks of the game is similar to Animal Crossing. I would of like to of had a house to decorate but you have more than one room at the dorm to decorate in different themes, etc. I am working on a Christmas room right now. You can also buy CD's, learn different tunes and buy intruments including drums and electric guitars and actually play them to the tunes you know. Other characters will also come and join in to add to your playing(more instrument sounds). There is a Haunted House you can visit and check out treasure chests so long as the ghost don't get you, and Island where you can fight a pirate for treasure. Weather changes the same as Animal Crossing(real time), kicking snow around right now and the characters are a bit of blabber mouths, but NO biggy. In closing, the game is very fun, addicting and takes time to finish everything. If you want a game where you get your money worth, this is it, at least for me. I have been playing from the first day it was out and I have a long way to go. If they make Magician's Quest 2, I will be there opening day to buy. Enjoy!!!Read full review
I bought 3 of these for my 3 girls because each one had to have one per person. They are pretty good about taking turns and sharing but not with this one. Now they all play together and then "connect" and visit together. They also share the "cheat sheets" and solve the "mysteries" together and give each other advise and directions. Sometimes it makes me laugh to see the youngest one telling the oldest how to get around a problem or how to do a spell. Had I known about this game, I wouldn't have bought the others I spent money on.
I had this game when I was really little, so the nostalgia makes it worth it.
