My wife, knowing I'm a fan of the Megaman game series, bought me this game for my birthday. (I love my wife!) This game is a remake of the early 90's SNES title, MEGAMAN X. CAPCOM has added 3D graphics, a complete storyline, character voiceovers, and the ability to play as Vile, X's secondary adversary in the game, who has around 30 different weapon choices once they've all been obtained. The player can "accessorize" which 3 weapons to take on each mission. They also made a few slight changes, such as moving the locations of X's upgrade capsules. (They weren't very hard to find however!) Also added is a movie showing the story of what happened to start the series of events in the game. Finally, they've added the ability to play through the stages again once you've beaten the game, with the bosses intact, and the storyline repeating each time you play the stage...but you get to keep all the weapons you had at the end of the previous game. (Kinda like New Game +, for people who've played SquareSoft games like Chrono Trigger.) They could have added more content IMO, like the challenge mode on "Megaman Powered Up", but they did a great job remaking this game, and I was very pleased with it. Overall, I'd give it a 9/10.Read full review
The game is a remake of Super Nintendo title Megaman X that has been upgraded for is debut on the PSP. The characters are 3d rendered models set in a 2d environment that looks amazing. The music score has been revamped and the main characters and robot masters are voiced by various talents from American Anime industry that really make the characters come to life. The game play and controls are simple and solid so a novice or veteran Megaman fan will have no problem picking them up. However a few changes were made to throw a curve ball for those expecting the exact game as before. Upgrade capsules, heart contains and energy tanks have been rearranged to give the game more of a challenge. You get two games for the price of one with this title! Once you beat the game as X you then unlock Vile mode. A very fun and challenging mode where you play as the Hunter gone Maverick, Vile on his mad quest to defeat X. The icing on the cake is the added dialog for each robot master before battle. As well as the 2d animated opening and endings for each mode with the unlockable 30 minute UMV "The Day of Sigma". Which shows the events leading to the game. This game is a must for any fan of the series and loads of fun for the casual gamer.Read full review
mega man maverick hunter x is a great platformer for the psp. the play control is great, the graphics are pretty good for an early release psp game. to compare it to powered up, the graphics are much more adult oriented. powered up has a much more childish look to it, where maverick hunter is a more hardcore edgier feel to it. instead of some cutesy boss like the fireman you get to take on an much more evil looking boss the flame mammoth and such. there are 2 difficulty settings, normal and hard and normal isnt easy by no means. this game is def worth picking up along with powered up
this game i have mixed feelings about. its a port of the original mega man x. when i got this game, i expected it to be fun and the controls to be spot on and intuitive. and they are. one thing i didn't expect (and i should have since i saw the words "mega man" on the cover) was the difficulty. this game is relentless w/ the levels and all the enemies and traps along the way. the first boss i beat took me a week to figure out how to get through the level and to beat him. but i've beaten a few more since then. i guess you just have to work at it and then it becomes a fun challenge...sorta. if you played mega man x when you were younger and mastered it, it's been said that this is the way a port should be made and go out and torture yourself to your hearts content. its also got redone graphics, anime cutscenes, and voice acting (this can be good or bad but its good this time around). at first i thought of selling this game for its relentless difficulty. but i stuck w/ it and beat a boss and i decided to keep it. and i i'm glad i did because even though i suck, the satisfaction of beating a few bosses feels pretty good. but if you're not patient w/ games and you don't play them unhealthily like i do, then this is not the game for you. this was made for as hardcore as gamers get and "good" mega man games won't change at all. oh and if you beat the game, you get to play through as *goes to room to see what that guys name was again* vile.Read full review
I love that this game is a respectable replica of the original with a few great extras. Since it is a new system, they were able to put beautiful scenes in it, where the Super NES did not have that capability at the time. Also, the voice acting is great. I bought it because I have always been a huge fan of the Mega Man and Mega Man X series over the years. I love how, despite all the years ago, they have been able to form a completely new version of a classic, yet make it better. Would recommend it for fans!
