It wasn't what how I expected the game to be. I play Oregon trial 5 on PC. Almost everything that made that game so addicting is not in this one. It has impressive graphics for a 3DS game, and fun mini games, but that's about it. There is very little educational value compared to OT5. For example, you can't forage for native plants anymore, or heal people with certain medicines(now you just click "use medicine") you can't go to the store and buy things for the trip. There are only like 5 categories of things to buy, and you just click "buy more food" or "clothes" not specific items. It really is an entirely different game than the other Oregon Trails. It should be called "Driving a Wagon Around". Kids might like it, but I found it disappointing.

What would the classic Oregon Trail look like back in the 1970s if they made it today? This is how it would look! Choose your type of Oregon Trail Adventure! Were you a family, a mountain man, an opportunistic thief? In this version you get to drive a wagon! Drive carefully and risk less damage but you might not get there on time? Visually stimulating, light music of the era, a nice off-road trip without the huge commitment. Stop and catch fish or go hunting, trade with the Natives and make friends. Watch out you don't get held up by bandits! Careful your wagon doesn't catch fire or get dry rot through the harsh desert areas. I had a difficult time pulling myself away except that my thumbs were getting sore from being into it! Save your progress along the way and unlock awards and upgrades to pimp out your buckboard! Also inevitably educational but shouldn't have been sold that way, this is a true historical adventure on a handheld platform. Boring title didn't get this game very far in the market and it's too bad. Only the older gamers were drawn to the title but it's fresh for younger players as well. A limited production and amazing performance is going to make this game incredibly rare and valuable for the collector and a must-have for any parent who has a child that keeps saying, "Are we there yet?". Just reach into the back seat and say, "No. You have died of dysentery." 5 stars. If you get this game, you will hold onto it, not just to play it again and again but because it's value is only going to go up.Read full review
