One of the few strategic, turn-based titles for a console, especially for X-Box, this title is a good mix of strategy, decision-making, and tactics. Choosing one of the six "American" factions or the European Union changes the initial strategy you should employ, but by mid- to late-game, it's all about getting experience for your units to make them tougher. The only drawback is that sometimes the AI can be predictable, especially in the last battle of the game. All-in-all, a good title with some goo d replay value; definitely worth your time if you want a strategy game without having to manage complex resource networks and want to take your time to plan out an attack (or defense).
If you like hex based strategy games like the NES Conflict or Super Nes Super Conflict then this game takes it to a cooler level. I give it a 4 of 5 only because it doesn't incorporate any navy. Even the Civil War had naval battles so why not in Shattered Nation? I'm glad to see new hex based strategy games so I'm not going to complain. I like shooters, also, but these games have there place. I like the story line scary with today's political scene, i.e. blue states and red states. Great reply value and fun 2 player mode. Online play is also available.
I liked this game due to the tactical and strategic aspects of the game, as commander of one of seven factions,(six american and one european union), it is you responsibility to reform the United States and then drive a rogue Russian general and forces out of Alaska. This game gives you alot of different types of military hardware and aircraft changing with the faction that you control. If you are into Risk or other games of strategy and conquest, you'll love this game.
This is an excellent historical reversal game. The USA "broken up" into different factions--a new "War Between the States".If you've played other simulation combat games, this is no more difficult to understand/play.Introduction of new types of units and added viewable terrain/city damage make this a more "realistic" game. You must really think through your unit choices as there is no repair/replacement as in some other combat games. No resupply vehicles either,so you must marshall your resources;nor is there "simultaneous fire"--you get shot, you could be "dead" without a chance to return fire.(as happens in the REAL world) I purchased this game not just for the combat play, but primarily for the "reverse history" aspect. You can play out your own "Civil War" on a more modern level, without having to micromange every little detail.Game scenarios are quick and easily defined and attainable.A fun play for any day!! A well presented and outstanding combat game!Read full review
