GOOD: - 23 maps, including 9 maps never seen before in the battlefront series (many of the old maps have been remade for the PSP also). - customization and personalization, allowing the player to chose their own weapons, abilities, and appearances for the Empire, Rebellion, Republic, & CIS. - a decent campaign with a nice story and cool cutscenes. - new galactic conquest with more strategical elements - great online multiplayer for 16 players - good framerate - asteroid bases in space battles are awesome - new ships + jedis/sith in space battles - fast loading times BAD: - controls are awkward - graphics aren't that great - AI is too easy - the campaign is short It's a pretty good Battlefront game overall and it's great for on-the-go gaming.
Overall this is a great game for the PSP that utilizes most of the power the PSP can offer. I had low expectations for this game and was pleasantly surprised to find that it offered more than I had expected. There is a mode called conquest which is a nice game to play while you’re on the road or flight. It adds a strategy aspect to the shooter based game. However, I was unimpressed with the multiplayer, as every game I joined felt choppy and that made it difficult to get into the game. Playing with friends using Adhoc was extremely fun and was definitely a worth while game to play of road trips. Graphics 9/10 for the PSP this looked great Sound:9/10 If you’re a Star Wars fan this is great Multiplayer: 7/10 The only reason I give this a 7 is the online play seems choppy Overall Playability: 9/10 Great controls mixed with great game play. Overall score 9/10 Highly recommended for PSP owners. Also with this game being bundled with some PSP’s you can usually find this game for under 20 dollars.Read full review
I decided to buy this game after a friend convinced me that it would be better than Battlefront II. Well, it was. Star Wars Renegade Squadron has two modes of play: Single Player and Multiplayer. Single Player features Instant Action (which is the same game play as in Battlefront), Campaign and Galatic Conquest. All three modes are similar to each but different in their own ways. Instant Action is literally what it implies. You set up a "playlist" of worlds (and their corresponding eras) that you want to play and as you beat each map, the game moves down the playlist to the next map. It's fun, simple and doesn't require much time or commitment. Campaign mode has a storyline, of course. The storyline has hours worth of game play for newbies or, at least 2-3 days worth of playing for experts. As always, you can choose the side you want to be on and pursue the campaign from there. The campaign mode requires commitment and time; this isn't the type of mode you pick up and drop when ever you feel like it. One thing I liked about this mode was the various things you were required to do in order to complete missions. For example, repair turrets, find energy cells, destroy specific equipment, etc; it wasn't all about fighting. The only thing I didn't like about this mode was the amount of space fighting that had to be completed. I'm not a fan of space fighting and the campaign mode implements all styles of fighting as you move along the storyline. The good thing is that once you get a feel for space fighting, you can destroy the main ships (which will end the battle) within three minutes if you really work at it. Galactic conquest is best explained as a turn-based strategy game. When you go into this mode, you choose your side and are brought to the main screen where you see a galaxy and all of its planets. Some planets will be in control of your enemy, some will be yours and some will be neutral. There are four phases to this mode. Treasury, Purchase, Movement and Reinforcement. Treasury is the phase in which you collect funds. Purchase is the phase in which you purchase troops or purchase techs or commanders. And Reinforcement is the phase where you reinforce certain areas after a battle or before one. I play this mode all the time simply because you can choose to "autoresolve" battles against your enemy or you can choose to "defend" th planets by actually participating in the battle (similar to instant action in that respect). Multiplayer mode offers game play with other players across the network but you will obviously need internet access and patience. I've found that players in the multiplayer mode are really good at Renegade Squadron and will pulverize you 100 times before you kill them once, by accident. The controls were easy to learn but may be confusing at times. The graphics were great, the music was good, the cut scenes were strange. Every time the game progressed along the storyline, you would see a stand still picture (artwork) that would have some animation aspect to it, such as blue light. But the picture itself never moved; the camera moved along these artwork pictures as the story was being told. That was the only strange thing about Renegade Squadron but I can definitely live with it. All in all, if you're looking for that Battlefront feel but want to play an evolved version of it, Renegade Squadron is the game for you. Divergent4 gives it an 8 out of 10.Read full review
It was an ok game. Liked how you could personalize character and exchange weapons and gear. I didn't like how the gear you could select had to add up to 100 credits or less. Wish they could have a money system where you could buy upgrades. Didn't try multiplayer, but tried galactic conquest. Overall set up was ok. You had to buy troops on each planet and upgrades. Taking over sectors will unlock heros that give bonuses. Didn't really care for the game play. I am used to the ps2 games, so guess i'm a little byass toward their setup.
I have a play station portable and needed a few games saw this one on ebay and the price was right so I puchased it and received the game in a few days for my birthday. Game has great pictures like the movie great fighting with the bad guys. wow I beat the game 2 weeks later but plan on keeping it for later game playing. over all I would choice this type of game over again I am looking for other games that are out on ebay.
