As a fan of Swamp Thing I was rather disappointed with this game. It is loosely based off the short lived animated series where Dr. Arcane destroyed Alec Holland’s lab and in the ensuing case he got covered in a special chemical and jumped into the swamp…turning him into Swamp Thing! From there Arcane gathered his mutated minions he calls the “Un-Men” to go out and get Swamp Thing. Basically the plot is okay but also very cookie cutter to introduce bosses when it comes to the “Un-Men”. When you actually start up the game you will quickly that Swamp Thing walks about as fast as a slug which is ridiculous. His main attack is to punch enemies but most of them are too short for him to hurt! One good thing is that you can pick up sludge balls to throw but unfortunately the game won’t allow you to duck and throw at the same time for no apparent reason. Because of all of this the game can be very difficult with awkward combat and a lot of treacherous platforming jumps to make. A few things that this game does have going for it are that the graphics are really good and the atmosphere in each of the levels is great with various different swamp, jungle, and lab levels. So overall I would say that this game isn’t worth your time unless you are a massive fan of the character. Swamp Thing was in his own comic by 1970. Then the game came out in 1992. This game cartridge is super rare. Also the original Gameboy has this game. Good for your collection. So fun buying these obscure pieces of history.
