I use machetes a lot in the upper midwest as a land surveyor. I've bought a lot of "wierd" machetes, from Kukri to Panga to more exotic, and this is my favorite design; it's no-nonsense or frills, but it just plain works. It will cut anything from light woody stuff like buckthorn up to a tough 4" elm tree. And a lot of it. Like any tool, you have to keep it sharp, but this one is easy to sharpen, will take a decent edge, and it will keep it. That alone should place this one in the upper 10%. Since it has a weight-forward blade, once you get it moving, it will "do the work for you", unlike other, lighter designs that you have to power through each cut, saving you energy and effort. Tramontina has been my blade of choice for over 20 years, and I don't think you can beat it, including for price. Nor do you have to baby it; it's man-tough. Read full review

The handle is comfortable and easy to hold onto. The blade shape andcedfand flexibilty cut effortlessy. Holds an edge and is easy to sharpen. Light. Better than some 150 blAdes. Durable. I work in woods/ brush surveying and I use it daily. No problems

I really do like this machete. Value for money - absolutely! Two things - the handle was a bit squared-off for my tastes so with about 20 minutes of sanding, I had the edges knocked-off and rounded, and now I have it to where I like it. Also, the blade did require a bit of final sharpening - it had a decent edge from the factory but a little time with a sharpening puck definitely made it better. Again, this is a nice machete and for the money, it is a very nice machete!

Bought it for the blade shape and size and already expected to replace the handle with something longer that fit my hand better. The handle is oversized enough that you will be able to finish it to your grip for comfort with a file and sandpaper. And unfinished enough that you'll at least want to sand it down and perhaps apply LBO or some such preservative. In my case I've purchased some wood to make new scales that will be more comfortable for my smaller grip.

EXCELLENT MACHETE! Definitely the best bolo machete for the price (The steel sounds great).you will need to sharpen the blade and sand the handle and put some polyurethane on afterwards but it will be awesome.
